Glad I went
He asked if I'd like to go to Bodnant Gardens,
The Laburnum arch was something to behold.
I almost answered "No" cos I didn't want to go.
Then I remembered something I'd been told.
"If you've nothing else to do you should be going.
Would you rather sit at home all by yourself?"
If I hadn't gone Id never know he was the one
And I'd still be left reclining on the shelf.
I didn't fancy him when I first met him.
I didn't like his face, his voice, his hair.
I wasn't looking for a beau, I just had nowhere else to go
And at least I would be getting some fresh air.
His car pulled up outside of my apartment.
It first backfired then rattled to a stop.
I hoped my neighbours had not seen this wreck of a machine
or the guy inside it wearing a tank top.
He said he knew the Latin names of all the flowers
Carpe Diem, Ipso Facto, Addendum.
I was truly blown away by every Latin word he'd say
even though I could not ever comprehend em.
After several more days out together
I felt that I was warming to his charms.
While walking in the park, that's when I felt the spark
And melted right into his waiting arms.
Almost eighteen years we've been together.
We even have a bike that's made for two.
I really don't know whether we would have ever got together
If I hadn't have had nothing else to do.
