Grandma's Not Gone

by Leann DS

Each morning mama wakes me with
A cuddle and a kiss,
but this day was so different;
And something was amiss .

Through tears that dripped like melting ice
On warm late winter days,
Mama forced a slow, sad smile, and
She gently stroked my face.

"Last Night, while we were fast asleep,
Lord Jesus, He did come
To take your grandma far away
To her forever Home."

"We'll visit her each Sunday like
We always do," I said.
"She won't be with us anymore,"
Mom bowed and shook her head.

As days turned into weeks and months,
I found that mom was wrong.
Grandma was still with me in each
Smell and touch and song.

I found her light blue sweater left
In Grandma's special place.
Through the sleeves, I pushed my arms and
I felt her warm embrace.

Nutmeg wafted to my nose and
Wind chimes to my ear.
A dragonfly flew by me and
I knew grandma was near.

The tart taste of an apple or
The scent of line-dried sheets,
A sparrow's song, a jelly jar,
A puddle in the street.
No matter how much time went by,
It was not hard to find
My grandma all around me. She
Lived in my heart and mind.

Sweet memories and binding love
Will tide me where I roam,
Til my Jesus takes me, with joy,
to my eternal home.
