Different Kinds of Guides

My Guide

by Verna Cole Mitchell

In long ago days, I confess,
We hadn't any GPS
That keeps on many times restating
The news about recalculating
And sometimes leads us on a chase
To some abandoned unnamed place.

Instead, we'd maps with many lines
That crossed in many strange designs
With names of streets so small, you'd need
A magnifying glass to read.
The paper, very hard to hold,
Was quite impossible to fold.

These guides that led from town to town
Were needed just to get around.
A problem that we had with thatâ?"
We hardly knew 'where we were at'.
To use them, we were often wary,
But still we found them necessary.

Although I wrote those lines in jest,
I have a gTuide that's truly blest.

God's Word directs me as I go
And teaches me what I should know.
It shows the pitfalls in my way
And brings me back each time I stray.
The map to heaven here is clear,
And as God guides, I shall not fear.
