A bolt from the blue ...

So shocking!

Amazed and in awe at the lightning's power
They never knew it was their final hour
The fort was historic, with stories to tell
One more was added on that day from hell.

They climbed right up to the high watch tower
They never knew it was their final hour.
Twenty seven in all, on the fort with its wall
Sixteen struck down – yes, they heard death call

Mostly just young ones, lives starting to flower
They never knew it was their final hour
Smiling for selfies, such fun in the rain
But they left behind much grief and pain

A carefree moment, for memories rare
Adventure and freedom, they wanted to share
It struck with such force, and killing power
They never knew it was their final hour.

Lightning strikes kill thousands each year, world-wide, and more than 2000 in India alone. On a Sunday in July last year sixteen more people were added to this death toll in the city of Jaipur in India. These were mostly young people, taking selfies at a famous fort in Jaipur, in the state of Rajastan in India.

Although not from India, I found this an incredibly sad event, so unexpected for them and their families, their lives cut short by a freak accident, a disaster.
