Staring out my window,
watching the sunlight
breaking through the night.
Wondering what today holds?
Pleasure, pain or a combination.

I recall as a child, if things didn't
go my way, I'd throw a tantrum.
Making myself and everyone
around me unhappy.
In my senior year in high school,
I surprised my doctors and myself.
I suffered a massive stroke. It left
me paralyzed from head to toe.
My chances of survival very slim.
Walking a tightrope between
life and death, gave me a new
outlook.

I survived, my body may still
show the after effects. But
whatever challenges come
my way, I'm so happy to
have the chance to play.
