Delivery & Deliverance

by Jennifer L Newcomb

It was around this time of year-long ago
An expectant couple was seeking land to and fro
Their little one coming with no inn to stay
As night closes upon them
a manger the mother would lay

With pain unspeakable, she's tired and cold
Her eyes scan the manger remembering what she was told
Blessed among women, she found favor with the Lord
The time has come to deliver heavens adored
Lying in darkness giving birth to the world's light
Honestly had them questioning if Mary had heard right

A message from God delivered to a husband and wife
One of faith, hope, and love with an eternal life
Emmanuel is the name to say God is with us
It is the name Jesus our entire world must trust

In her pain, she whispers yet again "let it be done"
She and Joseph were chosen to raise God's only son
Believing with God all is possible, a virgin she had been
The parents to raise God's only son whose kingdom has no end

His cry echoes in the night, all is silent before him
Joseph lays his son in the arms of his beloved giving her a grin
Emptiness shrouded this dim and lonely place
Suddenly a shepherd and his flock overflowed every space

The darkness became brighter, an East Star shining above
Looking upon their infant son, he's the flesh of God's love
Jesus will fulfill the promise the world could be saved
Will their hearts be open to receive him, this gift God gave?

God-given revelation showed how his life would unfold
How generation to generation her son's sacrifice told
A tear falls from her cheek, as she considers all her son will endure
A mothers spirit in a body of flesh becomes doubtful and unsure

Her heart screaming expects his death to bring heartache and pain
Praying for added strength when she sees Him ridiculed and slain
God the Father through the prophets told what His death would do
Death laying a foundation for redemption giving life to me and you

Mary trusting in her God accepted that her life was not her own
She never saw it coming that her son's flesh will be torn to the bone
How hard it must have been for Mary's heart and eyes to behold
Living a selfless life of endurance for God's Reconciliation Plan of old

A love story with no ending never changing through time
Salvation to whosoever believes, theirs, yours and mine
A couples selfless love for their God gave us an open door
Showing our acceptance of God's gift, sitting on a golden shore!
I can picture the three waiting now filled with excitement and joy
Greeting every soul entering heaven to meet them and their boy!

This was inspired a few years back when God showed me a vision of a campfire with children around. There was like a narrator telling the children about his son's birth but the main story was more about his parents and their view. Did Mary and Joseph know what was to unfold for them and their son who was the Savior? How in the world did they endure the heartache and pain of losing him? After witnessing his ministry beforehand, were they thinking they had lost their minds? Do you believe it may have been possible for them to even be made with God? Did they think with some type of expectation like the rest of the Israelites what this savior would look like and how he would go about saving the people? We're they expecting something different too? Saving just the nation of Israel like some kind of king or warrior. A saving of the people looking through the eyes of flesh. Spirit and flesh at the same time and our lives flow between the two (Rumi).
