It is more blessed to give than to receive

Double Blessing

by Anne Johnston

Kneeling by her bedside, a woman thanked the Lord for all the blessings He had bestowed upon her. She asked for guidance through the day. Knowing that Christmas was only a few days away, she added a special prayer that God would show her a way to be able to buy presents for her children. Rising from her knees, she went about her daily chores, trusting that God had heard her prayer.

Many miles away, a man knelt in prayer, thanking God for the blessings that he had received. He asked the Lord to bless and guide him through the day. Then he added a prayer that the Lord would show him someone who was in need that he could bless at this Christmas season.

Rising from his knees, a name came into his mind. He went to his desk, wrote a cheque, addressed an envelope, and placed the cheque inside. Later as he dropped the envelope in the mailbox, he whispered a prayer that God would bless and use the gift for His glory. Joy and peace filled his heart as he went about his daily routine.

On Christmas morning, the woman rejoiced as her husband read the Christmas story from the Bible and the family prayed together. She prayed that the Lord would bless the one who had obeyed His voice. There was joy and laughter as the children opened their gifts. Once again, the Lord had heard her prayer and met the need.

On Christmas morning, miles away a man and his wife read the Christmas story and prayed together. There was joy in their heart as they opened their gifts and thanked the Lord for his blessing on their lives and that they had been able to give Christmas joy to someone else.

We can never outgive the Lord. He said it was more blessed to give than to receive. Why not ask Him to show you someone in need that you can be a blessing to this Christmas?

Christmas Story contest entry

This is based on an experience in our home, years ago. I can remember my mother receiving a cheque the day before Christmas and going shopping with her to buy presents for my brother and sisters. Money was not always plentiful in a preacher's home, but God always met the need. That is why I always try to find someone that I can be a blessing to at Christmas time.
