“It’s hard to believe you’re a hundred years old today, Mary. Six weeks ago you were hospitalized, but now you’re strong. Your color’s great.”
“I’ve lived too long, Doctor.”
“Don’t say that. Each day hereafter is a bonus.”
You’ll outlive me, he thought.
A stroke took his life hours later.
