The consequences of working all the time

Weary

by Shawn Luther

Life has made me weary
My eyes, red and bleary.
My body is constantly pained
My pillow, flat and tear stained.
Too much work, not enough hours
Can't even stop to smell the flowers.
Constantly my body and soul ache
Smiles are getting harder to fake.
My stamina has grown weak
Too tired to even speak.
Time with family is rare as a gem
Too often work keeps me away from them.
I work to provide and nurture
Being away from them is torture.
Head lowered I hold the course
Stubborn and steadfast as a plow horse.
Perhaps at twilight's end I'll finally rest
Knowing I've given my all, given my best.
