A Sonnet

Love can Die

by Dolly'sPoems

When early love can blossom like a flower
into devoted honesty and trust,
it can be tested by a stormy shower,
and washed away unless it is robust.

Tenaciously my heart believed in you,
unguarded I fell hopelessly in love;
not one to give up easily, I knew
that I had won my place with you thereof.

You scarcely greeted me with sunny eyes,
but critical a voice to wound and burn;
and soon each look would always criticise,
yet for your love my heart would always yearn.

Consistent lack of care corrodes the root,
and so it rots, and pain becomes acute.
