Penny Gets a Puppy

Penny Penelope Applebee
was so excited because you see,
they were getting a little puppy today,
one that the neighbors were giving away.

A little girl puppy so small and sweet,
someone that Penny was excited to meet.
They decided to name their pup Emily,
soon she'd be part of their family.

A golden retriever with bright brown eyes,
and yellow fur, that's no surprise.
Penny planned to teach her some tricks,
like how to roll over, sit up, and fetch sticks.

Mom and dad said having the pup was okay,
but Penny was in charge and as of today,
she must walk, feed, and bathe her pup, too.
Penny read a book on it and knew what to do.

Emily whimpered that very first night;
it broke Penny's heart but it turned out all right.
Soon, Emily settled down on Penny's bed...
fast asleep on her pillow, right next to her head.

Dad's slippers Emily chewed in the hall,
but Dad wasn't really angry at all.
He bought her a chew toy and red ball to chase.
And she did! She chased it all over the place.

Penny also had a calico cat,
would they get along? She worried about that.
But both of them got along very well,
they'd be best friends, Penny could tell.

Penny was happy to have Emily,
that she'd become part of their family.
Mom and Dad said they both loved her, too,
Emily was the very best puppy it's true.
