Today, a rumble in the skies
Announced a glorious rain.
I watched it come with thankfulness,
Refreshing earth again.
 
The days had passed so hot, and though
Humidity was high,
The plants and flowers all sadly drooped;
The ground was parched and dry.
 
For me? Oh, what a great reprieve—
No struggle with the hoses:
No lugging round, then rolling up,
Today, this “child” reposes.
