Acceptance is the key ...
Acceptance - on life's terms
by Melodie Michelle
Dedicated to all that are in the process of accepting acceptance in their lives - here's a big SHOUT OUT!
|
My poem is written about this excerpt from the AA big book page 417 Fourth Edition.
Here's the excerpt:
"And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or situation-some fact of my life-unacceptable to me, and can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake. Until I could accept my alcoholism, (or life's challenges) I could not stay sober (or vigilant), unless I accept life completely on life's terms, I cannot be happy. I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on what needs to be changed in me and my attitudes"
*from AA big book
I don't read it because of my past addiction because I'm no longer an addict, I'm a survivor of addiction!
That being said,
I read it often because of every day life and because every day life can suck, especially with some of the people we allow in it.
It keeps me grounded because I may not can change others, but I CAN change what's going on inside of me! It keeps me humble and in turn, also keeps me grateful!
