The Wind Drops a Question

by Frank Jauregui

Curtains heavy, heaving, birth!
In my room, on the floor, the dawn's firstborn oblation
The wind, which dropped the question
Is it possible for a man to return into his mother's womb?
Made use of all its fingers as it searched throughout the room
For a riddle of its own to ponder.

But it found none, save the CAT
Which offered me escape proclaiming that
It would if I'd allow it
make its bed beneath my head, and hold me there
Forever safe, forever purring sleep.

And if the question runs too deep
Consider this
think of the hour, And how much it will devour
As you make your meal of words.

Words, idle words - not living
Full of contempt, and unforgiving
Look elsewhere, cried the wind
As it hastily withdrew, and I flew closely after
Knowing that my breath would follow, whether or not I did.

And as the wind gushed forth
I caught a glimpse beyond the drapes
the truth for too long hid
A vision I had often seen, but until then, had never understood
The SUN rising on the earth!
And all around, upon the flowers, grass, and wood
the glistening dew of afterbirth.

After Nicodemus asked Jesus if it was possible for a man to return into his mother's womb; Jesus explained that the Spirit of God is like the wind; you cannot see it but you can feel and see its power as it affects the environment around you. Jesus then reaffirmed; unless a man is born again in the spirit he cannot see the kingdom of God. (John chapter 3) Jesus often used natural truths to explain spiritual reality which is impossible for the natural man to understand unless he is first born again in the spirit. I think poetry also has a way of bridging the gap between the natural and the spiritual. I pray this poem will spark new faith and spiritual new birth in someone. By the way, the SUN represents The SON, Jesus Christ himself seen with new spiritually awakened eyes and the CAT represents any religion; CATechism, philosophy or belief that does not recognize and teach the need, as Jesus said, to be born again in the spirit to be able to see the Kingdom of God. The CAT represents the natural thought and reason we are all born with V's the spirit led, life of faith that comes by being born again in the spirit. The natural leads to eternal sleep while the spiritual new birth leads to eternal life.
