Just A Rhymer

by jaybird1

My friends say you are a rhymer,
I say no, just an oldtimer.
The poets of the golden age,
let rhyme, with wisdom fill their page.

They wrote on things, of troubled times,
gained flow and cadence with their rhymes.
They gifted us with heart and soul,
ne'er letting free verse dim their goal.

Most of the free verse I have met,
is tennis played without a net.
So, I'll keep writing poems in rhyme
and hope you look me up sometime.

If poems are not supposed to rhyme-
Then why did Shakespeare waste his time?
