Poem of the Month Contest Winner

My skirts shall no more ripple in pools of regret,
nor the hems again soak wayward tears of insignificance.

How long have I whispered in quiet rooms,
peering through closets,
perfumed of sweet nothings--
a fading marionette,
mimicking the melodies of spring,
my strings frayed and spent.

The daises in me have long since waned,
but I believe shall sustain,
whence caught in your lair,
midst that facade of green,
wondering if the sun really had been.

Dust and earth now brushed from my face--
welts weathered within, hidden without trace.
Yet, sanctified, this melody is mine--
an overture, refined.

You thought me peonies in bloom,
to pluck and groom,
while violins played only for you.
Swept aside, cast aside,
forced to abide,
chide beneath fists broad, as wide,
bruised, with none to confide.
Yet, I am no vestibule for your pride,
for I am a woman,
and thus are you less.

Watch now as I grow,
skirts wide as I flow.
My pirouettes unique,
borne of unbridled feet.

With joy, I've found me,
perhaps no longer a rose,
but myself I see.
Wings formed with intent,
a metamorphosis meant.
And I rise...yes, I rise
shedding the ashes of your demise.

From a drop, forms a ripple,
from that ripple, there is hue,
and from that hue, there are oceans...
and I fly... yes, I fly.

And as I waltz into that breeze of tomorrow,
my possessions are bare,
for all else is bound to you--
forgotten in that place blue.
And so, this I write to you;

''Sometimes...a tree cannot share the breath of heaven
without first feeling the wrath of the earth.
