Life is a great road - the wrong turns make it fun

Entwine to Define and Find

by Reese Turner

No, it has not been easy being me
Keeping life complicated, you see,
Doing normal things differently
Insisting always to live “Spirit Free!”

In the beginning, I was just a boy
Their only one, their pride and joy
Then, mom said, “That mold destroy!”
Due all the work she had to employ.

I hated school from the very start
Was boring to me, never in my heart
To read, write, silly games? Why start?
In a class of sweets, I was just a tart.

I found construction work more fun,
Then, oilfield roughneck, gave it a run.
My rock n’ roll gig was all too soon done
Hard worker, but surely a wayward son…

Then, Navy service in late 60’s arrived
Still thanking my God that I survived
With bountiful lessons which I derived
About real life - so into that I dived!

Tried college again over ship that sails
A job in New York and all that entails
Hard work, travel in international sales
And a million stories in old man tales!

Ah, yes, but no story would be complete
Without the good woman, I did meet;
Gave me decades, daughters, all so sweet,
“Hey, dad, met a boy. He’s really neat!”

So, what’s the lesson, the bottom line?
Be demanding of new adventure to find
New places, new people - never recline!
Life is many great things. Of it all, entwine!
