Remembering World War Two

by jaybird1

My memories of years long past,
will linger long, will always last.
Flowers, tickets, pictures in glass,
back from my graduation class.

My class was nineteen forty three,
t'was young and happy, feeling free.
Many young ladies stole my heart,
but, a raging war bade me depart.

I thought my duty was to serve.
The Air Force called, testing my nerve.
For two long years, that was the span,
in which this lad became a man.

D Day led to our victory,
with Englands help we all were free.
Just yesterday I toured a site,
where vets were laid, who lost their fight.

An aging vet from years long gone,
I'm proud that I still carry on.
But, ne'er forget the agony,
the cost to set our whole world free.
