A Fictional tale by Eric C Goose
Here's a story of an orange named Don.
His hands were quite small -- his hair was quite blond.
He had a good friend and his name was Puti.
Puti thought that Don should rule all the fruiti.
Don told the fruit they should listen to him.
He said ,"Things will be grand when I am the king.
I'll keep bad apples out and good peaches in."
He failed to inform they'd be judged by their skin.
So in blind faith they voted him in.
They had no idea what was soon to begin.
One by one Don kicked most of them out.
Only oranges and peaches were walking about.
All for one and for one orange's pride.
Yet cries could be heard from the fruit outside.
Don got sick with what he thought was the flu.
His doctor then told him that he had something new.
"It's a virus", he said, "and there is no cure."
Let's keep this a secret so the peaches don't fear."
After one week Don looked feeble and blue.
He then asked the doctor, "Is there more you can do?"
The doctor knew of an apple that went to his school.
He said, "He's smarter than me-- much nicer than you."
I'll go on a trip to find the apple named John.
I heard he moved far and lives out by the pond."
So the Doctor went out with hopes of a cure.
His intentions were good his intentions were pure.
Then he found the apple--the apple named John.
John casually asked him... "What's going on?"
He told John of the virus -- his reaction a cringe.
John said, "Try apple juice... I'll fill this syringe."
The doctor raced back to save his friend Don.
All Don had to say was "What took you so long?"
The doctor injected Don with the juices.
It cured his weak mind and healed all his bruises.
When they walked outside the stench was so thick.
They soon realized that the whole town was sick.
An uneasy feeling overtook Don.
He had made a mistake and knew he was wrong.
The town was decaying before his own eyes.
He knew his own actions would be his demise.
He called out for the apples to make their return.
He then realized that a lesson was learned.
All fruit we need and should treat as such.
The apples said "Thanks, but no thanks very much."
We have our own town where inclusion is key.
I'm sorry to say but we'd rather be free.
We'll give you the juice to save oranges and peaches.
But we'd rather not live in a land that can't teach us.
Don returned with the juice to save the whole town.
He took all the credit so they wouldn't take his crown.
A young peach stepped up to tell them the truth.
That Don he had lied and could show them the proof.
The whole town was healthy and strong as can be.
They moved out of town so they too could be free.
Free of the hate and free of the the fears.
Free of the lies and free of their tears.
Even Don's friends, they would no longer stay.
Puti exclaimed, "It's a price I won't pay!"
Don sits in his castle he was so proud to own.
Not once did he think he would sit there alone.

This is a fictional story with fictional characters that are fruit. There is no political satire intended nor is there a political agenda attached. I also released the graphic novel and it available now on Amazon. Hope to see your review there as well. Although they are never required they are greatly appreciated and deeply treasured.
