A chapter in the book Prompted Poetry

Jazz

by Debra White

I didn't care too much for jazz -
a rambling, rhythmic razzmatazz,
where random notes played out of time
and made no sense.

A musician competition.
A clamoring cacophony.
Not my cup of tea.
At all.

Tch-Ts-T, Tch-Ts-T, Tch-Ts-T, Tch-Ts-T
Badabadabum-Badabum-Badabadabum
Aplingplingplingpling-Aplingplingplingpling
Wa-Waah-Wa-Waaaah
Dubbeeda-Dubbeeda-BadDaDa

I didn't care too much for jazz
until La La Land -
then my ears
and my heart
got it.

La La Land is one of the best movies that I've seen in the last few years - Made in 2016, it is an American musical romantic comedy-drama film, written and directed by Damien Chazelle. It stars Ryan Gosling as a jazz pianist and Emma Stone as an aspiring actress, who meet and fall in love while pursuing their dreams in Los Angeles. (Wikipedia)
