A Puente poem for Potlatch Poetry

Wishing

by damommy

It doesn’t pay to wish for things
It’s just as well to wish on wings
of mourning doves that wander by
and fly my wishes to the sky.
They float up where great winds have blown
into a magic, mystic zone.

~ and where they land is never known ~

but there are times when they come true
and seem to come out of the blue,
just when we’ve given up all hope
and reached that fraying end of rope.
I must have faith and keep believing
wishes I will be receiving.

I have followed this variation to rhyme the bridge with the last two lines of stanza 1, which would follow a rhyme scheme of aabbcc c d,d,e,e,f,f.

The Puente, a poem for created by James Rasmusson, and is somewhat similar to the Diamante. Like the Diamante, you start with one aspect of a topic or issue and then, line by line, work toward another aspect. In the center is a line that bridges the two aspects together.
