Democracy At Stake

Black lives matter, that is clear,
that means all races, far or near.
With climate change we must compete,
our economy is in retreat.

Rich get richer, the others poor,
our borders are an open sore.
Congress is broke, won't do its job,
while our police face angry mob.

Our schools and churches suffer great,
reforms, long needed still must wait.
The virus holds the upper hand.
These things and others fault the land.

The early settlers made progress,
while we wallow, knee deep in stress.
This word of caution, I must send,
this stalemate surely needs to end.

I feel much hope we can succeed,
fulfill all past and future need.
It seems we're on the proper track,
our need is this, never look back. May-2021
