According to Greek mythology Narcissus walked by a pool of water and decided to drink some. He saw his own reflection, became so entranced by it, he drowned himself because he could not have rhe object of his desire. A Narcissus flower grew in the spot where he died. Hence the term narcissism means extreme love of self, to the exclusion of others.
