Break the Rules
by samandlancelot
As I waited at the red traffic light, a drunken man exited the Silver Dollar bar on Main Street, staggered across the street and began to pound on my driver's side window. He mumbled something incoherent as he pounded. No other cars were on the street and no police were in sight, but I was trained to follow the rules. I waited nervously for the light to turn green to take my left-hand turn onto the alley for the underground parking lot of my overnight job at a downtown law firm. Even when in danger, I couldn't break the rules.
