Old Town's and memories

Small Towns

by John bailey

I was out driving through
some old towns, that I use to
run when I was young.
I came to a place on the
river, that is now a State Park.
I remember the dam I use
to walk across.
most of the dam is gone now,
due to a flood.
The water still runs across
in the middle.
I took a walk up the path
behind the dam.
It all came rushing back
the flat rocks that the water runs
across.
I remembered I use to
drive my car, out on the rocks
and wash it.
Those were the days of my
youth.
I can still see that 55 chevy
sitting in the water, on those
flat rocks.
The time of my life
my girl by my side. We were young
and living the life.
The dam is still there just not
complete.
You can't drive up the path now
it's a State Park.
Progress is a beautiful thing.
The memories when there was
no barricades, to keep out
the cars have not faded.
A hot summer's day.
Your car parked on the rocks
in the water.
My girl and me sitting on a
blanket, with a hot dog and soda,
the good old days, gone
but not forgotten.
The past is still present in the
hearts of young love.

Old Towns
there's so many more
to explore.

Just a fun day to see what I have missed, to remember what I had forgotten.
