A twist in...

The Life of a Wedding Ring

by Boogienights

The life of a.... Contest Winner
The small shiny band of gold
that he gave to her one day,
brought their two hearts together,
and together they would stay.

She wore it proudly through the years,
good and bad times they would weather.
It seldom ever left her hand,
as they grew old together.

It had been made in a small shop,
just a few blocks down the street.
Seemed like it was made just for her,
symbolizing love so sweet.

Started out in a small velvet box,
then for years it witnessed life.
Time passed by, children came,
when love made them man and wife.

When she died the ring moved on,
her daughter soon would marry.
With her mothers band of gold,
an added stone it now would carry.

Another union, years had passed,
the shine upon it still remains.
A symbol of commitment,
to a love that still sustains.

Till one day someone desperate
held a gun and took the ring.
It broke her heart to lose it,
it was such a tiny thing.

For it had been her mothers,
though its memories will live on.
It's that which provides her comfort,
now that the ring was gone.

A shady shop, no questions asked,
the ring sits in a case.
As the thief gets high and crashes,
a lost and blank look on his face.

It now sits inside the case,
as many months pass by.
Perhaps the shiny stone and gold
would catch a couples eye.

A few would stop and look,
but no one would buy the ring.
Then one day it was placed in a bag,
along with other things.

The bag was labeled scap gold,
a new home was never found.
It would soon become something else,
when it was melted down.

The shiny band of gold and stone soon became no more,
but the essence of its symbol still lives on.
In the memory of a woman whose finger it once graced,
the love it represented never gone.
