Heavy Rain

by Boogienights

It is so very quiet, the calm before the storm.
Above, the sky's tumultuous, dark clouds begin to form.
The birds have stopped their singing, and their winging through the sky.
A stillness, then quite suddenly, harsh winds begin to fly.

Torrential rains come down to batter, all that's in its path.
The kind of rain that Noah knew, when God unleashed his wrath.
The rumbling sky, electric, with bolts that pierce the dark.
Then one strikes true, a pine tree's branch breaks off in a small park.

The smell of ozone heavy, but the storm soon moves away.
Leaving behind destruction, though no lives were lost that day.
It was so very silent, the time since the storm had passed,
nature unleashed her fury, then went on her way at last.

Dark skies will clear, waters recede, our strength we will apply it...
To start once more, rebuild and restore, but for now we rejoice in the quiet.
