My Inland Sea

by Boogienights

On the shores of this Superior Lake,
darkness wraps around like a sheet.
The lake is calm, cool gentle waves,
rhythmically caress my  feet.

The moon's glow above casts a beam of light,
waiting great freighters illuminated.
Sailors aboard can't help but to see,
this spotlight that nature created.

The sun warmed sand has now turned cool,
the quiet of night soon settles in.
I know a spot where no one goes,
it's there my reverie begins.

Grateful for life and all that I have,
Thankful my family are well and still here.
So many were lost when sickness took hold,
so much heartbreak was coupled with fear.

Smooth and silent a sailboat glides,
from it faint laughter and music I hear.
Enjoying the lake on this perfect spring day,
all holding hopes for a better new year.

The lights of the city stretched out like a jewel,
a brilliant necklace of colors that shimmer.
I watch from my spot, this place I call home,
the joy inside me, it sparkles and glimmers.

For each breath I take tends to remind,
me of all who no longer breathe.
Selfish I once was, now that is through,
we must reach out and help those in need.

The Aerial Lift Bridge sounds the alarm,
raises up high and a freighter slips through.
Unloading it's cargo all through the night,
sailors busy doing whatever they do.

It's here in this place next to this lake,
where I, my darkest thoughts will release.
Here, I cast off my troubles and woes,
it's where I find the greatest of peace.

I dip my hands in these waters that heal,
then reluctantly I head for home.
My inland sea, I leave it for now,
but share my love for it, with you in this poem.
