A Perfect Spring Day

We climb up on the hill where we first met,
we two, both in the sunset of our lives.
The first blush of Spring flowers gently sways,
as all around red robins flit and dive.

Our picnic we then spread out in the field,
despite dark clouds and hungry ants near by.
We set up our old rusty ancient grill,
but it won't light, no matter how we try.

A feast we have despite our unlit grill,
red wine, cheese, bread, and lemon cakes delight.
The birds provide the music so serene,
a calm prevails as daylight turns to night.

Then slowly we walk home, your hand in mine,
as fireflies, like beacons light our way.
The love we've had for years still lifts our hearts,
at this, the end of our perfect Spring day.
