As I view the world words spill into my head.

Compulsion

It is my quest as a writer
not so much to create as to discover
thus I must absorb the world
 
When I’m awake I’m compelled
     to listen, touch, taste, and smell all about me
     then choose words, compose in formats of
     novels, short stories, and essays,
     couplets, quatrains, sonnets, and songs
 
I keep a notebook and record my personal epiphanies
     write down both the vulgar and sublime
     work like an out-of-control dream spinner
     courage to venture onto the spiritual plane
     ignore the critical voice that echoes in my head  
     unlock and explore dark secret desires and forces  
     harness thoughts breaking on my subconscious shore

and Create

I'm incessantly obliged to let loose
     the perceptions of my heart
