I love to write with HB2 Ticonderoga pencils.

Yellow Pencils

by HarryT

I love Dixon Ticonderoga yellow pencils
They fit comfortably in my right writing hand
Sleek and long, topped whit a cleaning utensil
Ready to compose at my muse’s command

We work, mistakes made, erasers smudge
Even as I slowly sharpened them away
And pink top-tip becomes dark as mud
But they still give their gift of lead each day

Even though their points wear round and dull
Their length dwindling from eight inches to four
No complaint about teeth marks or knocking my skull
Even half-size they work to help write even more

I’m sorry to grind them into shrinking stumps
But a nice sharp point is my ardent desire
When discarding them, I fall into sad slumps
Each one was a friend who aided my inspire

Crickety aging fingers are no longer nimble
I know soon sadly I will have to let each go
I know they’re not a bold status symbol
But Dixon Ticonderoga #2 pencils are my gold
