Forever Grateful

by Leann DS

My life with each of you was fraught with pain,
Memories that reflect like shattered mirrors.
Deceptive layers, peeled away, remain
Strewn about my feet mixed with bygone fears.

But each night when the moonbeams fill the sky,
I recall the lessons that I learned from you,
Of how to clip my wings and learn to fly,
Relying on myself to start anew.

Because of you, I learned to stand my ground,
To fight for truth, accepting nothing less.
Inside myself, so many strengths I found,
And I am ever grateful, I confess.

But there's another gift you gave to me.
Betwixt chaotic times all filled with grief,
You're gone now, but you left a legacy,
Both strong as oak and fragile as its leaf.

I thank you for this gift I can't replace,
The one that changed life making it complete.
Without it, I'd be in a different space,
Still sifting through those pieces at my feet.

So, I just want the two of you to know,
Aside from facing life with great aplomb,
The greatest gift, on me, you did bestow...
Thank you both... for making me a mom.
