So Long Ago

by DragonSkulls

How quaint the rainbow's now become,
unlike the days of old.
With leprechauns in shiny boots
that freely hand out gold.

So long ago the task at hand,
where very few returned,
was more than simply Lucky Charms.
You fought for what you earned.

You'd follow hues through thickened brush
to reach the rainbow's ends,
then fight the woolly mammoth beast
for gold that it defends.

You'd come with weapons made of steel
that honed a sharpened blade.
You'd savagely then fight to kill.
A life for gold in trade.

There wasn't any pointed ears
or Irish speaking troll.
For if you sought the rainbow's end
you dared to wage your soul.

Those vicious trials have long since passed
and now such days are gone.
No woolly mammoth guards the gold,
just some leprechaun.
