Lady Oscar

by tempeste

A tomboy at heart
it was love at first sight
for cartoon character
Lady Oscar.

Loved her rebellious locks
and androgynous looks;
Her dashing uniform
and black knee-high boots.

Born a girl yet raised as a man
her father planned
she'd take his place
as Commander
of the French Royal Guard,
one day.

Trained in fencing,
horsemanship and military combat
she'd often get thrills,
making mock kills
whilst practising her skills
with Andre her best friend
since childhood.

Called to guard the Queen
Oscar witnessed the Royals'
empty and frivolous lives,
their many lies and realised
France was ruled by unjust hands.

The French Revolution was in ferment ;
Oscar and her regiment were sent
to snuff out the rebellion
but last moment
they turned coats.

Rivers of tears I wept
when Oscar was shot dead
while storming the Bastille
and its cannons.

Heroine in my eyes,
and defender of justice;
she fought with courage
for the peasants' cause.

Sword in hand, freedom for all,
were the last words she cried.

Cartoon Time writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem in any style: about your favourite childhood cartoon or cartoon character.

ideas, why you loved them, when you watched it, memories, theme tune, year etc

This will be forever my favourite cartoon..

I love History .. and Lady Oscar's story takes place before and during the French Revolution...

There are 41 episodes ..the saga ends with the Take of The Bastille famous moment in the French Revolution.

Soon after, Queen Marie Antoinette and her husband will be arrested and guillotined.

The Monarchy in France ended.

This is a Japanese cartoon year 1979 .. the soundtrack is beautiful.
