Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
Leaving abuse behind

No More, No More

by Liz O'Neill

He was passed out now
Drank himself into oblivion
It was her chance
Her children's
The moment had come
All of the planning

Saving
Stowing
Securing
Was coming to fruition

The continuous snow
Would cover their path
She figured
It was a mile
And a half

Down the hill
By sled
Pulling her children
Their belongings
To their freedom

This life-threatening storm
Was nothing
Compared with the storm
Raging inside her souls
Inside their life

Hers
And her children's
Inside the cold log cabin
They built along with their hopes
Their dreams

They were all dashed
smashed
crashed
bashed in
like her face

No more
No more

I worked with abused women for 30+ years. This is a combination of their stories.
