Roadtrip To Delapididdle

by Reese Turner

I think a roadtrip's what we need,
We need a fun get-away, indeed!
Let's do a roadtrip again
And go someplace we haven't been.

Should we go East or to the West
Or North or South -- which way is best?
Why not put a map upon the wall
And let's throw a dart to make the call.

The map was hung, the dart was thrown
And landed in a place, to us, unknown.
Not too far away, a town not so little
By the curious name of Delapididdle.

What goes on there? We'd like to know.
We packed the van, "Ready, set, let's go!"
The "WELCOME" sign had been marked through
It now read, "Go away. We don't want you."

They don't mean it, just kids playing games.
Our interest in Delapididdle still remains.
Only a few people were there walkin' round
And, most wore odd clothes and surly frown.

They waved their fist, would scream and shout,
We wondered what that was all about.
Main Street Delapididdle was burned or boarded -
We had not heard of this mess reported.

Then a group saw us, started coming our way
We had obviously come on a bad day...
Take any road, just get us out of here,
This roadtrip has us visiting fear!

"Wake up! You've had a bad dream in your snooze,"
She said, "You're simply watching too much news!"
"From all this bad news we must be freed,"
She said, "I think a roadtrip's what we need!"

Road Trip! writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
We can't travel right now, but we can go there in our minds! Write a poem of any length and style about a road trip. Where did you stop? What did you see? What kind of treasures did you pick up along the way? Who did you bring with you? These are just questions to inspire you. You do NOT have to include them in your work. Have fun!

As an avid RVer, I know and love roadtrips! But, more and more, there are places I won't go. Hard to believe that these things now visit us...
