Constanza Poem on Childhood

A Pocketful of Coins

by June Sargent

A pocketful of coins felt great
The pennies I had saved all week
bought treats to fill my chubby cheek

My friends and I could hardly wait
Together we would skip along
and sometimes sing our fav'rite song

Each Saturday we had a date
A treasure trove we'd find in jars
and boxes full of candy bars

Excited, we were never late
All week I dreamt of Mary Janes
and multi-colored candy canes

The store would open half past eight
The first in line I'd try to be
to sample sweets with joy and glee
