He had kissed her. It was quick, it was soft; but it was a definite kiss.
She had noticed him eyeing her as he sat down. She made a point of sitting a little straighter, she was a lady after all, and he was worth the effort.
A shy smile passed between them.
The doctor called her name; damn it, why today when things were looking up.

As she got up, he leaned over, and his tongue met her cheek. A kiss of reassurance. She wagged her tail at him in thanks.
He barked after her. They would meet again.
