Soul searching
by zanya
We don't know what is 'soul'.
We throw the concept around in our interactions, at least we used to before Covid 19 forced us to spare our speech, lest we spill too much saliva!
'Soul' is interwoven into many religious beliefs. In the secular world, 'soul' is more difficult to quantify.
We talk of 'soulmate' when we want to express the notion of a person with whom we share some meaningful compatibility. We reach for the idea of 'soul searching' when we are confronted with some existential crisis in our lives.
There's the negative side of this idea of 'soul' when we say 'soulless' to describe an unpleasant or meaningless experience in our lives.
So 'soul ' follows us around, keeps tapping us on the shoulder at significant moments in our existence.
'Soul' matters and is an integral part of us. I'm not sure why.
