About the birth of my oldest child
Baby Journey
by Monica Chaddick
The first time that I took a pregnancy test, it came up negative. I was on birth control at the time, and I had recently gotten married. The clinic told me that the birth control pills were probably making me sick and that I should get off of them. I told my husband this and we agreed to use another method of birth control.
A couple of weeks later, I was still feeling sick and a friend suggested that I return to the clinic for another test. Again, the test came up negative. This time, they told me that the pills hadn't cleared my system yet and to give it a couple more weeks.
During all of this, I was trying to keep a house for the first time, learning how to be married, and attending college. All the while, feeling sick all the time. After another couple of weeks, I once more went to the clinic, expecting the same negative result. This time, however, I got a positive! I was, indeed, pregnant for my first child.
My pregnancy went pretty good. I went to my classes two weeks past my due date. My professors were all terrified that I would go into labor in class, but it didn't happen. Finally, my doctor said he would have to induce labor.
I went to the hospital and was induced. After eleven hours of induced labor I was only at a centimeter and a half! The dreaded diagnosis came at ten o'clock that night. I would have to have a C-Section. I was terrified! I had never had surgery before. I had never even been in the hospital. The whole ordeal was over in less than thirty minutes. I had a gorgeous eight pound eleven and a half ounce baby boy born two days after my birthday.
