Prologue
My 2020 NaPoWriMo Prologue

By sunnilicious

April is National Poetry Writing Month (aka NaPoWriMo 2020). This new year hasn't been easy emotionally for me. And now, I must include talking about the pandemic.

I don't care what I eat, once I eat... However, I'm still somehow finicky. I hope everyone is housed and fed to say the least. Toilet paper is like a guarantee to happiness. Surreal is like an understatement. And this crazy stuff is going on around the globe. I am upset about all of it.

I read online about 17 people that contracted Coronavirus in my community at a nearby nursing home: 10 employees critical, 5 patients critical and 2 patients dead. Instant shock. Why is there a nursing home in my neighborhood? Why do I live near an airport? Am I going to get sick? Why did I cry for total strangers? How to deal?

I would like to be optimistic and happy in writing my poetry. And if I can't be, the simplest thing is to dive into writing about nature like animals, pets, flowers, gardens, plants, etc...

Others call me names like heartless and unemotional in my creative writings. Let me tell you something, I would love to be an idealistic woman, married to the world's greatest husband with a child or three, living a suburban fairytale and writing about my selfish family in ignorant bliss. Life just isn't what it should be for me. But then, it is what it has become. Call me whatever... I could call you a few names too.

Anyways, I can't make any promises more than delivering an originally written poem a day for thirty (30) consecutive days. Maybe, I'll be angry and depressing. It would be fresh. Maybe, I should stick to the official writing prompts. That might be disturbing because of the graffiti theme, "See Something New.".

Finally, I would like to thank my family, friends and acquaints for supporting my artistic endeavors. I look forward to reading the work of my fellow FanStorians too. Good luck to everyone participating in this annual poetry writing event.

Be careful, stay safe & strong. God bless you.

Love always,
Alicia
S.A.Seecharan

PS... Minutes after writing this prologue (on my iPhone at 1am PST on 03/30/2020), the NaPoWriMo website changed this year's artwork and theme. The newest theme is "It's Party Time" and the artwork is a photograph of a relatable park.

PPS... I still do not know what to expect. I don't want to trash my original prologue. I sincerely wrote it for my audience. And so, I added to my prologue in postscript (aka post scriptum) to you.

PPPS... Hearts and hugs.

Chapter 1
The Earlybirds

By sunnilicious

Cheery chirps at the break of dawn
Pulls me out of bed and I yawn.
I listen intently and count,
I count the chirps of flighty clowns;
Four canyon wrens and a songbird.
They chirp, peck and walk with a stir
Around that bent old lemon tree
As the light forces them carefree.

The songbird flies up ---
To inspect lemons and poop;
A new song is born.

Four canyon wren birds ---
A small flock in unison
flaps to the mountain.

A bright day begins,
But I must stay home alone;
Pandemic panic.

Author Notes March 31st 2020 - The NaPoWriMo prompt is to write about a favorite bird. I wrote about birds in my neighbors' lemon tree. I tried to take a picture with the birds in them, but they rather play peek-a-boo at the sight of people. I wasn't able to identify the songbird. It looked like a robin but with a bright blue breast.

Chapter 2
Self-Portrait of a Butter Lover

By sunnilicious

I wish to eat butter...
I like to eat butter,
I love to eat butter.
I want and need butter,
But I don't have butter.

I bought plant-based butter,
because of a commercial.
I hate plant-based butter;
It is naturally fake...
I can taste the difference.

The real butter is smooth...
I enjoy the richness
As cold butter melts down;
Full of fat but skinny,
And unsalted for me.

I dream about butter;
Butter balls, butter baths
Butter pats, butter sticks,
Butter knives, Butter art...
Butter my world better.

Author Notes Day 1 Writing Prompt - Write a self-portrait with a metaphor.

This poem is about my passion for dairy with a love for pure butter. Something I was raised to know as relatable to others. I used verbs, however, not in a constant/outright action by adding the -ing to the end of those verbs.

NaPoWriMo.net provided a link to a metaphor builder. I tried it... However, I created my own metaphor through brainstorming. I utilized the word, "butter" as an action in the metaphor. They use Forrest Gump as an example to a memorable metaphor. I included the YouTube movie clip in the notes too.

Also, I went to the grocery store today and didn't see any butter in the fridge. So, I just have Country Crock Plant-based butter at home. There's so many ingredients and processed. Idk... It's not bad, It is much different than regular butter. Maybe, you should try it at least once too. Thank you for reading my poem.

Chapter 3
The Yosemite Area

By sunnilicious

I know about this place called Yosemite,
an area of forests and meadows,
stuck in a beautiful infinity;
The national park with twisted shadows.

Its history dates back ten thousand years,
human habitation is much younger,
starting with Native American cheers
and progressing to tourists in high numbers.

A land graced mountainous with flowing streams,
rock formations, ancient sequoias, pines,
camps, wildlife and things for simple dreamers;
Where people reflect and cherish star shines.

Forest Rangers protect God's Promise Land,
And it isn't a hard place to understand.

Author Notes Day 2 - National Poetry Writing Month optional prompt - Write a Place Poem.

God's Promise Land is common, because of a bible story about Abraham. It's not just a place in Israel. God's Promise Land can be used for any place in a natural state. Debate me or edit me on this... I don't mind.

I always loved Yosemite. It dates back to watching Yogi Bear and Smokey the Bear public service announcements. I know plenty people that visit there. I don't know anybody that lives there. But I have a friend with a brother that works there. And I remember some tv news stories about criminal escapes into Yosemite. As crazy as it could be, it's a still a tiny stastic of the whole. And so, I dream to visit Yosemite National Park, someday.

Chapter 4
Truths Revealed

By sunnilicious

I have eight movie posters on my wall,
And an old National Enquirer mag.

A small collection, but i own it all;
It's part of my attractiveness, but not to brag.

I picked ten words from everything before breakfast ---
By the way, I baked myself Texas Toast,

And wondered how to make the money rain;
This actress is ready for the work train.

Let me be lucky, landing those film roles;
It really would be a victory for me.

The gypsy says acting's the passion of my soul ---
The psychologist says I mustn't work for free.

Author Notes Day 3, optional writing prompt from NaPoWriMo.net - Make a list of ten words from anywhere. Use rhymezone.com for synonyms, add a variation on some, none or all the words to write today's poem.

Words Utilized:
National Enquirer words used - national, enquirer, gypsy, psychologist
Classic movie poster words used - own, charismatic rhymezoned to attractive and -ness added, breakfast, rain, hot rhymezoned to lucky, triumph rhymezoned to victory.

Classic Movie Posters: The Wizard of Oz, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Some Like It Hot, Gone With The Wind, Casablanca, Singing in the Rain, The Birds, Goldfinger

Chapter 5
Dream Swirls

By sunnilicious

YouTube sent me a video;
A Space Video with footage from Space.
It was over clouds and mountains
With music for an added grace.

Before bed, I decided to watch it,
And fell into the best sleep of my life.
I couldn't awake, as a dream captured my spirit;
A hand grasped mine as I searched for the moon in strife.

I looked for a crescent, half, full or anything...
I saw our clasped hands together with confusion.
Who was this tall man with strong hands?
Is my life without a moon disillusionment?

Immediately, I was tossed into a swirl,
And landed in a lush meadow, under the moon.
I was old, but still just a little girl,
Content under the moon, stars and stuck in the boons.

Author Notes Day 4 - NaPoWriMo 2020 optional writing prompt - write a poem based on an image from a dream.

This dream actually happened after watching the embedded video. I suppose that I rather be alone than with an astronaut living in Space. Life on earth is precious and safe. And I wrote the poem in quatrain. I played with the scheme. It works for me, even if some of the rhymes are off their schemes; ababa and xbyb

Chapter 6
Happy Nonsense

By sunnilicious

"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy,
they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."
- Marcel Proust.

A pink elephant dances around the tulips
I hear, I see, I smell, I touch, but I don't want a taste
And it smells of trouble
Michael Bond, my dear friend in heaven is truly missed
His pink elephant wore gray ballerina clothes,
But mine is happy with barefeet in nakeness.
A growler, A grunt, A howler...
Pink tutu or not, they're both drunk dancers
Barev im ynker
Faithful cinema and democracy
Deafening silences
Pink Elephant stops to bake some cupcakes
Sunnilicious thinks otherwise, and visits the bakery
The tulips will go in the beer pitcher
A swarm of witty bees
Brave bees speak zealously to get in the garden
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
That talking tulip is a socialite
And the pink elephant must go and blow its trunk.

Author Notes Day 5 - Twenty Little Poetry Projects, 20 questions are given. The writer can answer some or all to make/write a poem.

Note: I answered all 20 questions
Note: growler, grunt and howler are the slang names for 32oz beers
Note: English - Hello my friend Aremenian - Barev im ynker
Note: "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" is a Bollywood film. The title translated to English is "Take the bride and run."
Note: It is funny when memories of a dearly departed loved one floods us. This poem is dedicated to my dear friend, Mike Bond best known on FanStory as the late Lobengula. May he always rest in peace.

Chapter 7
The Wild Strawberry

By sunnilicious

The symbolism of a wild strawberry
Is not from the color, shape or taste.
It comes from the stories past.
Age-old knowledge, well accounted for
Through a series of trial and error
By curious people;
People with a sense of adventure.

The wild strawberry holds on to many truths;
The red color is delicate yet seductive.
The texture is hairy, seedy and sensual
As it sparkles like a hidden gem
Amongst its own green foliage.
No deaths have occurred from eating this berry.
And how are there no snakes in this garden?

This wild strawberry personifies passion
As lovers share it with little nibbles.
The taste of a wild strawberry is delicate,
But not easily found in copious amounts
To overflow like wine from a fountain.
Wild strawberries are a new religion;
Mix with cherries and bramble for refinement.

The wild strawberry
born upon creeping herb roots;
Enticing follies.

Author Notes Day 6 - Write a poem from the point of view of one person/animal/thing found on Hieronymous Bosch's (famous triptych) The Garden of Earthly Delights.

Note: I decided to write a thing. I have written many narratives, but not for fruit. My thing (aka fruit choice) was the wild strawberry in this ancient painting.
Note: I have always loved strawberries fresh from a patch. Wild strawberries were a thing around Washington State. Seattle Art Musuem's Olympic Park actually planted some, but rarely any berries bloomed. Every where else that I saw wild strawberries, I became estatically happy... I saw them rampant in a patch at a park in Victoria, BC - Canada. Simply intoxicating to see. However, I have not tried these wild berries yet. I must prefer harvested strawberries.

Chapter 8
A Story About Tiger Obsession

By sunnilicious

Joe Exotic's attractive in his everyday shoes
To a bunch of tigers that always growl the blues.
These big, lazy, cats are cage in the private zoo.
But somehow, today, a scent made them turn cuckoo;
Liger sniffed, pawed, bit and pulled that filled leather shoe.
Joe tried to beat Liger away, It was a view,
When the golf club didn't work, Joe reached for his pistol,
And the other big cats scooted with that fistful.
This was a trick plotted by Joe's long-time rival;
A tiger cologne called fish oil, which forced a fight for survival.

Chapter 9
A Bitter Ending

By sunnilicious

A vice of knives,
A piranha,
Religion, drinking...

A witch deserves better
Her heart emanates
But
Conspirators band together
Because
God has proven
The Devil was his favorite
Everybody wants to be a devil now
Pink Moon
Super Moon
The witch spits spirits
Bright like a pink diamond
The effects of evil shines
As this pandemic promises doom
And boldy
The luminous star whispers,
"It is more than an altered fate
It is more that what was done to you
It is more than what you could ever do
It is more than what you could imagine
It is a burden beyond the superhumans
What must happen
Will happen
You will see what you can handle
But remember
I will always love you".

Author Notes Day 8 - Write a poem that starts with a Twitter Tweet from the choosen poets in the writing prompt.

Note: Forgive me for being depressing. It difficult to be a single lady in these pandemic times. I couldn't be optimistic with the given Twitter Tweet quotes, however, this dark Slyvia Plath Bot stood apart to me.

Chapter 10
Two Triangles

By sunnilicious

I
like a
triangle,
because it has
three prominent sides
that stick together well;
idiophones have three sides,
but cannot be played without a
stick, a metal stick to play music.

Two triangles find togetherness
living as a square or diamond,
and it's not always flawless,
but peace shall still exist.
Is this a contest?
It's a challenge!
Same story
different
year.

Author Notes Note: Art is subjective. You can figure this poetic riddle out.

Day 9, NaPoWriMo April 2020 - Write a concrete poem.

Note: I wrote two nonets to shape the two triangles in a concrete poem.

Author Notes Notes: We all have and take photographs. There are no standards, but there are commonalities between our collections. This poem is about the mass market collection of photographs that we should all maintain. Hope you enjoy reading my poem.

Day 10, NaPoWriMo 2020 - Write a hay(na)ku. It is a poem created by the poet Eileen Tabios and named by Vince Gotera. A hay(na)ku consists of a three-line stanza, where the first line has one word, the second line has two words, and the third line has three words.

Chapter 12
The Pink Rose

By sunnilicious

The bright sun sprinkles pretty pinks around
To warm every heart and bless them with love.
This aura awakening happens at sundown;
A blessing given from our God above.

The pink rose inspires and promises happiness
As it is a grand gesture of true tenderness.
The beauty of a pink rose is blushing and bold,
As it seems to dance, Delighting hearts young and old.

Author Notes Day 11, NaPoWriMo 2020 - Write a poem in which the flower takes on specific meanings.

Notes: I thought a number of flowers since the NaPoWriMo posting to write about. They included links that were very useful in making me indecisive. I actually read everything. Then, I ran a search on roses and chakras to narrow down a flower choice for this poem. I was raised with roses and tulips in the garden. So I am passionate about having them around. Although, I have an anthurium houseplant from CVS on my kitchen table. I was raised with it too, but it's more of an always flowering plant. I love all flowers. And still, this was a difficult task to complete. I must get some sleep.

Chapter 13
An Easter Pandemic Story

By sunnilicious

Beware of Crazy Lil' Chicks crowned with bunny ears
They'll velcro tape you to the rosiness of Spring
As fun mixes sadist fears for more likes and cheers
Beware of Crazy Lil' Chicks crowned with bunny ears
That feed you candies and doom the future with fears
Garble or wring but let everyone hear you sing
Beware of Crazy Lil' Chicks crowned with bunny ears
They'll velcro tape you to the rosiness of Spring.

Author Notes Day 12, NaPoWriMo, April 2020 - Write a triolet poem

*Note: I am writing a triolet poem about Easter and/or Spring. It will be happy. Screw the pandemic. Let me think a little more... Bunnies, chicks, piglets and dog.
* Note: I watched plenty YouTube videos after reading today's writing prompt. Everybody and everything was so nice and pretty. Except. this one mean bunny in a 1971 "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" Movie. It gave me the idea to write this dark poem.
*Note: This year doesn't feel like Easter. I didn't buy peonies or cake, but chocolate bunnies and baskets sales are probably still very high.
*Note: The coronavirus is going to take us all out of this world. Face the facts life is over. Be an optimist if you want, but you'll die in a lie.
*Note: And I am going die alone. This life has not been fair to me. God is taking me out of it all too.
*Note: ...Happy Easter!

Chapter 14
Being Wishful

By sunnilicious

I don't steal,
because that's not right.
I was born to be bright,
wealthy and wild;
A film star
to simply adore
as you talk overtly about me.
I ask you
I beg you
I implore you
as I fantasize about you,
You forgiving me
for stealing your hearts;
I love you, I love you all.

Author Notes Day 13, NaPoWriMo, April 2020 - Write a non-apology about stealing in a poem.

Chapter 15
Life Is Song

By sunnilicious

There was a time my parents treasured me...
And we moo'ed about Old MacDonald at his farm
With some oink-oinks, bahhhs and monkey sounds everywhere;
But those Mother Goose nursery rhymes held more charm.

I really knew how to sing and dance
I could get my groove on when that phone rang too,

"I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart".

I visited the library, shows and a concert,
But I was young and scared of everything.
My dad loved his organ and Bollywood music;
He would play, sing and dance me some chutney.

My late mother had an oddly pretty voice...
Once a week, she sang the Koran in Arabic
And enjoyed radio music as her top choice,
We sang Christmas songs with joy, but a bit syllabic.

Author Notes Day 14 - Write a poem that deals with the poems, poets, and other people who inspired you to write poetry.

Note: My father isn't bald. Although, I have a late uncle. Anyway, I picked a picture that was on FanArtReview to accompany my poem.

Big Evil Grin

By sunnilicious

The other day he gave me a break
I thought my heart was broken too pieces
I could feel my tears shake down
As my heart rate was increasing
He screamed Ha Ha only half kidding settle down

Ha ha ha
He he he fell off the chair laughing
He he he pissed his pants with that big evil laughing
Give me a big wet kiss

I ran to him with bells ringing on on on on
I ran to him with bells ringing on on on on
I ran to him with bells ringing on on on on
I ran to him with bells ringing on on on on

I stopped short to build a bridge
To see his face with wrinkles and a ridge
There was no point
Face to face I could not blink
My eyes were open and I could think
Should I kiss him or ditch this joint

Ha ha ha
He he he sat on the chair laughing
He he he with piss in his pants laughing
Give me a big wet kiss

I ran to him with bells ringing on on on on
I ran to him with bells ringing on on on on
I ran to him with bells ringing on on on on
I ran to him with bells ringing on on on on

Boyfriend, boyfriend get over yourself
Boyfriend, boyfriend get over yourself

At this moment, I can really see you
And I want to say See you later
I might come back for you
When I know you care like I do
You don't even pay for me me at the theater

He he he looked at me from the chair laughing
He he he with piss in his pants stopped laughing
Give me a big wet kiss

I ran to him with bells ringing on on on on

I ran to him with bells ringing on on on on
I ran to him with bells ringing on on on on

And I decided to give him that big wet kiss
But this time, it was goodbye for now

Kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss
Big evil grin, grin, grin, grin

He he he
.... Bells ringing on on on on
.... Bells ringing on on on on

Kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss
Big evil grin, grin, grin, grin

Author Notes Day 15 - Write a poem inspired by your favorite kind of music

Note: I like all kinds of music. Being single, I didn't know what to write. Anything goes these days.... I finally worked with the song My Heart Goes Bang written by Pete Burns band Dead or Alive.

Note: Attached is a video of the original song in extended version and instrumental.

Note: The poetic song I wrote is about freeing oneself from an illusion. Sometimes, it's better to be alone that to be with a mate that is a cheater, mean or a even worst person. Before the pandemic stay-at-home, I heard plenty couples go on dates with buy your own moviepasses. How to impress a mate? How to date anymore? What is love? Does Sex exist?

Chapter 17
Hunting For Compliments

By sunnilicious

I am sitting on my sofa
And sipping a diet soda
Thinking about this pandemic
How to wish it was a gimmick?

On the tv runs a special
The latest news with potentials
I don't want to understand it
And how do I get out of it?

To those newscasters I must say,
Hanging out with you is always a blast
To those famed doctors I must say,
I bet you sweat glitter

They don't always know what to say
And I wait to see our leader,
President Trump's tie is perfect
It is plain, simple and solid

I see him, but he can't see me
Who would think we play peek-a-boo?
He always has great ideas
My president's one of a kind

To all our government leaders
You're really something special
To all those essential workers
Thanks for being there and caring

I'm blessed to know plenty people
They're truly my breath of fresh air
This ordeal changes me as a person
Thank you for being there as you

Author Notes Day 16, NaPoWriMo, April 2020 - Write a poem with a bunch of compliments.

Note: Compliments are considered common. I found a list of 100 compliments, but wrote some that are not on the list.

Note: I started writing forgetting to add compliments. But when I remembered, I couldn't stop. How many compliments can you find?

Note: Essential workers, it is a term for the medical workers, food industry, retail workers and every single individual that must work to protect the rest of our country/world through this unfortunate time.

Chapter 18
Phone Directories

By sunnilicious

There was happiness in annual directories
Happiness found from adventure
Where fingers seeked names or titles
My fingers enjoyed the Yellow Pages
Restaurants with ads were the right places
The right places for a first date
All topics were relevant to this future love
Time to consult the psychic for our future
I would have to invest in a red dress
Red was the bold color to captivate this man
I could dream about my engagement ring
He would be good looking with riches and a ring
My mother would sew the best wedding dress,
But a wedding dress needs party planning...
And which realtor would find us that new house?
A new house with a nice garden wedding.
Let me find a doctor and hospital,
The hospital to deliver our babies.
Completely embraced with romantic thoughts,
Thoughts trampled by a slight day breeze,
Why do I need to look at attorneys?
And I run for my husband in the White Pages!

Chapter 19
Saturday, March 18th 2020

By sunnilicious

I went to bed late and woke up early
The skies were grey,
No birds chirped or sang.
And I felt melancholy
As this pandemic seemed unholy;
This Orthodox Easter Weekend.

I couldn't eat breakfast
I couldn't drink coffee
And hours later,
I picked at takeout Chinese food
As I washed and dried some clothes
And thought about this Saturday.

I started to think about this Saturday
I started to think about my life
I sulked at thoughts about COVID19
I listened to an exorcist
I listened to President Trump
And called to talk with my dad.

I hung up the phone
As I realized it was evening.
I didn't know what to do.
I text talked online and took a nap.
I watched a televised concert;
Global Citizen was the sponsor.

Somehow,
I hope my words are flowing
Because I wrote this poem.

Author Notes NOTE: This poem was actually written on Saturday, April 18th 2020. I was thinking about the date and events when we were placed into the Stay-At-Home for California (March 18, 19, 20, 21, 2020). A nursing home near me had more than a few cases and a couple deaths. A few reviewers edited my title, but I decided to leave it as is and write a readers note. Thanks for reading and understanding the error.

Day 18 - Write a poem about Saturday. The advised to write it in an Ode. But we are in a pandemic here. I can't be happy for anything, NaPoWriMo. Pffft.

Chapter 20
My Feet

By sunnilicious

My feet
Slipped into comfortable shoes
And went for a walk, straight to the car.
They masterminded the pedals
Around the neighborhood,
To pickup a drivethru lunch,
Enjoy a little layover at the park,
And stroll around the grocery store;
My comfortable feet were happy
And liked the loitered drive back home too.

Author Notes Day 19 - Write a poem based on a walking archive.

Note: I wasn't comfortable walking anywhere with this pandemic (even with a mask). Everything seemed toxic. I did my best in writing this poem. Please, be understanding towards the condition of our current times.

Chapter 21
Presents from the Past

By sunnilicious

Simple days with homemade gifts seems to be long gone,
But the sincerity of the gestures live on...

The playful dolly
wore a hand knit can-can dress;
Hid toilet paper.

A crochet heeled shoe...
The craft gift that was adored;
Red shoe diary.

Vinyl art to share...
Friendship keychains and bracelets;
Lost childhood camp days.

Origami animals and alphabet letters
Made from scraps of paper or dollar bills.

handmade napkin rose...
a faithful promise of love;
impulsive moment.

Presents from the past
hold sentimental value;
Treasured memories.

Author Notes Day 20, Writing prompt - Write a poem about a handmade or homemade gift that you have received.

Note: The tp cozy and red shoe gifts were presents for the whole house. There were more, but that's none of your business. And I don't know if that goes on anymore, but I thought it was the nicest gifts when I was little.

Note: I wrote these poems on my iPhone at midnight on 04/20/2020. I awoke not feeling well and didn't post it until now.

Note: I couldn't decide on a poem or style. I just posted everything; couplets and 5-7-5 poems. Each poem can be deemed as individual.

Note: I might have to go back to sleep now. Forgive me for running late on writing and posting. I'll catch up when I can :)

Papuan Tok Pisin Poem

By sunnilicious

Pik-sa blan yu lan ga-las
E-mi na-I-spla po-em blan mi
Ta-sol, i mas ha-ri-ap, em bai lus
E-mi las-pe-la bi-an mi, Mi laik-im yu

Picture plain life with some love
Boring, but you write poem nice way
Because you see happiness, that is right
Flowers grow from seed with water, this is life

Author Notes Day 21, Writing prompt - Find a poem in a language that you do not know, and perform a homophonic translation on it. The poem may not be credible as the languages are different, and the rewrite is based on sound.

Note: I watched a video a couple months back about a boy saved from a life of cannibalism in Papua New Guinea. I thought the country was Native Indians, but there are Jungle People too. I decided to play with a poem from that country. I clumped the people of this country as a whole. And I found a poem from Papua New Guinea. The language is called Tok Pisin.

Chapter 23
The Kit

By sunnilicious

The kit ran around the local park.
It was adventurous but not alone
And I watched as it left its mark,
With muddy tracks from grass to stone.

This kit saw some cars, climbed a rock
And made an amazing long jump
To hard, hot, cement was the shock;
It looked at me and giggled like a chump.

Suddenly, traffic grabbed its attention
The kit looked anxiously left and right.
I was shocked at its comphrension;
This little animal was quite bright.

The kit sat there and wiggled its tail
As I tossed around leftovers of my lunch;
Those cars in the street quickly grew stale
And it ran to me for some bread to munch.

For a moment, we both felt at peace...
But my car keys fell and it scurried away
Up the tree with a food hoard to increase,
And this kit screamed, "I need to sleep on it!"

Author Notes Day 22, NaPoWriMo - Write a poem with an idiomatic phrase from a different language or culture as the jumping-off point.

Note: I'm unsure what jumping point actually means. Is it a starting point like a dive-in? Or is it an ending-point like suicide splatter?

Note: I searched a few countries. I decided on Russian because the correlations or translations from Russian to English were easiest for me to understand. I picked a proverb/phrase to end the poem.

Note: A baby squirrel is referred to as a kit. So "kit" is the name for a baby squirrel. And I really saw one at the park, during lunch today... However, I embellished a touch for the sake of this poetic story.

Note: I don't think I used the Russian Phrase properly, but I tried by writing this poem.

Chapter 24
Healing

By sunnilicious

The H stands tall and strong for a heavenly hug.
The E is for an evolution of a journey that enables me to be strong.
The A holds up a triangle because nobody wants to be seen as a square.
The L is a lullaby of love that cradles me through the pain that must exist like a law.
And I, I am simply incredible just because I search to imbed optimism for better truths to exist.
So, N would naturally place me into a nirvana,
But I must look at G and remember to stay gracious as I grow stronger from those grumbles.

All the letters of the word "healing" brings me into a deeper understanding about mending pain to find joy in everyday life.

Author Notes Day 23, Writing Prompt - Write a poem about a particular letter of the alphabet, OR the letters that form a short word.

Note: This poem was a difficult task. It took me at least 24-hours of pure work. That's a lot of think. Enjoy!

Chapter 25
Cuties

By sunnilicious

See the Cuties, Sitting, In that net bag,
I bought them at the grocery store.
These small oranges are easy to peel
And being seedless, I had to get them.
They were completely irresistible
And I was being unpredictable.
I don't know what city they were grown in,
However, however...
They were packed in Bakersfield, California.
Hallelujah, hallelujah...
For local mandarian productions.

Author Notes Day 24, Writing prompt - Write about a particular fruit, your choice.

Notes: I didn't want to write about eating the fruit. It seemed like too sexual of an experience when I wrote it. I studied advertising, so decided to write a sell on Cuties mandarins. Wish you were here to share with... Enjoy!

Chapter 26
Regatta in Venice

By sunnilicious

I know about a place, a place in a far away land. Maybe, it's a make believe place. However, I saw a picture. A picture on FanArtReview by Supergold, and he's a real person. A real man with plenty great animal and travel photos. And so, this imaginary place has become real. Real to me.

The canal originated from a painting. A painting that I found on Wikipedia. This oil on canvas painting is small and only a snipet of the real place... However, it holds plenty stories. Stories about a old world stuck in old ways. And yet, technology exists. Technologies like cellular phones and televisions. But in the photograph, we do not see anything new captured.

Okay, modernization added a better view of the bridge. Yes, a bridge.

The Rialto Bridge is one of four bridges on the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. It was built for people to walk from one side of the city to the other. And one can feel like royalty walking across this bridge as they overlook water. Water, filled with boats. Fancy canoes that the Italians like to refer to as gondolas. Gondolas transport people like water taxis. The romantic oarsman goes sculling in his little vessel for tourism, for work, for romantics, for Italy.

The canal is surrounded by buildings. Buildings where families have lived and worked for centuries. This canal is filled with the tears from turmoil past. It is told that the City of Venice is considered underwater mecca as it is often flooded by rains. The people of this city are all happy, nice, romantics because unconsciously they do not wish to be scared. Scared about the Wrath of God.

Truths exist, but isn't a smile picking out the next gelato flavor to sample the best class of ignorant bliss to have ever been. To have a slice of pizza pie and "cioccolato di Modica" would be amazing. It is such an amazing experience, the artists didn't want it captured in any pictures or paintings. Also, they know you'd become jealous. Jealousy falls in the category of Envy... And that is against God.

God is apparent with water in the canal and sunny skies.

People in Italy pray. They pray for everything.

Most of their prayers are sincere. I can tell from looking at this photograph, because everything is bright. Bright and happy. God and Man get along well together. They agree to disagree as they find harmony together with life in buildings, and moving across the land with an admiration for art and beauty.

Beauty of a landscape. An Italian landscape pictured without any masks worn.

Author Notes Day 25, writing prompt - Write a poem about a specific place. This was like the writing prompt on NaPoWriMo April 2020 Day 2.

Note: NaPoWriMo isn't very fun this year. The writing prompts haven't been the best to challenge me. Also, they aren't writing these daily posts very clearly everyday.

Note: I picked a picture on FanArtReview. And this poem is researched on Wikipedia it is mainly based on the photograph, Regatta in Venice. I am not Italian in any way. I made things up in this poem, but I eat pizza. I have Tostino's in my freezer right now. That makes me an unItalian authority. If you're offended... Well, so be it. I accomplished writing a poem for the twenty-fifth day of National Poetry Writing Month.

Note: "cioccolato di Modica" is the famed chocolate ice cream of Italy. It is a gelato that originated from Sicily.

Chapter 27
My Almanac Questionnaire

By sunnilicious

It was a clear night
And the weather was just right.
I watered the houseplant
And admired the Anthurium flowers.
I thumbed a magazine
And stopped to read an article that wasn't mean.
I was whisked into a series of dreams
It was traditional versus extreme.

I lived fairly simple,
But in a sturdy country ranch house.
It was close to a marina and beach
I ran there, I stood there, I ate a peach.
The dolphins were weaving the waters
Their squeals made me know they were talkers
I was somehow transcended to the Everglades
And on an airboat with quick blades.

People fished for rainbow trout in a canal
As alligators hung around like pals.
It was far from "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous"
However, it was travel and leisure celebrated.
Natives smoke danced in the distance
And they were dressed up like dolls.
When I realized that I was dressed for tennis,
I instantly found myself feeling like a menace.
The captain booted me from the dumpy boat
And I saw some pretty trashy stuff afloat

I followed it to tax-free tobacco products;
Where I pulled a casino up from my pocket...
And there was my sweet Romeo all along
He was gorgeous in jeans and strong.
This scientist talked about current conspiracies;
Coronavirus, US and China trade theories.
I was unsure about what to say.
So, I acted interested to give him a way.

Suddenly found formal, my tummy grumbled like thunder
And we ordered drinks and spaghetti without a wonder.
Las Vegas on July 4th out the window,
And complimentary veggie sliders topped with sparklers.
The Barrett-Browning's partied next to us;
It was the kind of night to enjoy pure fuss.
Romeo liked me for being a dreamer
And took us for a driver up to the Hollywood sign.

To be continued,
But I can't promise you.

Author Notes Day 26, Writing prompt - Answer almanac questionnaire in 5-minutes. Then take the responses and write a poem.

Notes: I answered the questions like days ago. See below the References for like the homework before the poem.

Notes: This was a difficult poem to write. The brainstorming process was ridiculous and didn't match traveling to me. So the poetic story was nutty. I probably utilized the first half of the answered almanac questionaire. I wanted to write the whole thing, but it's creatively draining. I can probably now sleep for a couple days without a problem. Lolz. Also, I wanted to utilize more transportation modes; imaginary and real.

Note: I thought National Poetry Writing Month was suppose to be for fun and learning. I'm not sure what to make of all this, this month. What day is it?

Chapter 28
Barbie Doll, 5-Star Review

By sunnilicious

Attractive and fit
with a wardrobe that won't quit
This dreamer is real
Ambitious as you make her
She is brave, She is gentle.

The ultimate doll
Proudly dazzling the crowds
And winning your heart
with more than her simple smile
One memory at a time.

Author Notes Day 27, writing prompt - Write a poem in the form of a review, but no book, food or movie reviews.

Note: I watched Antiques Roadshow this past Friday Night, which gave me an idea about what to write a review on. There was a woman that brought in her childhood Barbie Doll. She thought it was the first edition, but it was the second edition and played with through the years. The doll's worth was estimated at $1000 to 1500. I tried to find a clip of the show online, but found some other dolls shows. Hope you enjoy the poem and YouTube video clips.

Note: I was raised with Holly Hobbie, Charlie's Angeles, WonderWoman, Raggity Ann & Andy... All my friends had Barbie's and/or Cabbage Patch Kidsd. I was never into either them. Barbie still being around entered my life somehow. It was probably because of FAO Schwartz NYC. Most recently, maybe this past October... Mattel had a Barbie Dream Hotel in Malibu. I wished to attend, but found out the weekend the event started. I suppose there's a Barbie Doll in all of us women :)

Chapter 29
An Ode to My Dream Living Room

By sunnilicious

My dream living room is inviting and earthy
The colors are like a forest without fairies;
Charming hues of greens, blues, golds and browns are worthy,
Graced with an abundance of soft lamps and airy.
Wall to wall carpeting and a sectional rug
To house two couches and two chairs, but far from snug.
And in the middle, a modern coffee table
With plenty room to be creative and stable.
There would be hidden gems in a media center;
Large-screen television technology,
Music and books would make it much better
Where pretty photographs sit like a novelty
The walls would hold a secret luxury;
Sound proof, surround sound with a wall remote;
A plain but striking room with much to discover,
And a bed for my prized pet goat.

Author Notes Day 28, writing prompt - Write about a room.

"Martha Dickinson Bianchi's description of her aunt's cozy room, scented with hyacinths and a crackling stove, warmly recalls the setting decades later. Describe a bedroom from your past in a series of descriptive paragraphs or a poem. It could be your childhood room, your grandmother's room, a college dormitory or another significant space from your life."

Chapter 30
My Pet Goldfish

By sunnilicious

Fishy face
Kissy face

I stepped up on the ladder to find the fish food
To feed the school of goldfish
With a whole bunch of heavy-handed sprinkles;
I couldn't get down quick enough to watch them.

Fishy face
Kissy face

The flakes expanded in the filtered tank water
And I smushed my face on the glass to get the closest look
Fish fins flapped their bodies up high
Fish lips gobbled the food flakes up in a frenzy

Fishy face
Kissy face

Author Notes Day 29, Writing prompt - Write a poem praising a pet.

Notes: We (as in my family) had a number of pets when I was little, little. I actually have a lot of memories looking at the fish. We had about 5 goldfish in the aquarium.

Chapter 31
But I Hate Goodbyes...

By sunnilicious

I wish to say a farewell to the pandemic,
But that is taking its own time to dwindle down;
May this toxic evilness rid itself
And never ever return anywhere again.

An end to social distancing could bring new things
I don't have any lost loves that will return,
But may new things enter this mundane life of mine;
May surprises be in store for everybody.

Farewell to this annual poetry challenge,
I will not miss the writing prompts that I followed,
But I always seem to miss my online friends.
Who wants to talk on the telephone anymore?

I wish leading a life of normalcy could return;
Having a routine seems to be the essential.
I suppose that varies depending on lifestyles,
And you'll find out what happens to me next year.

Have a great year ahead!

Author Notes Notes: Thank you for reading and reviewing my creative poetic writings. I feel neurotic right now. I don't want to say goodbye. Hearts & hugs from me to you :)

Day 30, Writing prompt - This is the 30th poem, which is usually a farewell for the annual... However, this year, NaPoWriMo asks on an optional basis for us to write a poem about something that returns.
