Crashing thunder crackled through my brain
Splashes of rain pelted the window pane
Low, ominous rumble
God's power makes me meek and humble
Author Notes | I hear a loud clap of thunder the other night, followed by a low rumble. It inspired this verse. Thanks to Madsolution from Pixabay for photo. |

Our world is at a standstill
So many empty hours to fill
No work, so we should pray
No school, so we should study our minds and hearts
While making sure our kids are okay
Christ has taken His thorny crown
And set it on our heads
Offices, schools, eateries shut down
No traveling by plane through the sky
So to Jesus' outstretched arms I fly
With shut-ins, sympathize
With unemployed, empathize
See to it that these little ones, you do not despise (Matthew, chap. 8, vs.10)
Do your best to evangelize
Minutes turn to hours, hours into days
As the Heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways from your ways (Isaiah, chap. 55, vs. 9)
Time at a standstill
A pandemic chill
This is the Divine Will
Streets deserted
Waiting for hypocrites to be converted
Timeless days seem like eternity
A disease is now our enemy
Worse than war, hunger or poverty
These times, no one could foresee
As we await entrance into our Heavenly country
Author Notes |
Inspired by the pan(ic)demic Corona virus. Corona means "crown," inspiring the verse about the "thorny crown." Everyone please stay safe and well. Love, Dove

At the Lord's invitation,
Make a donation
Remember that your gift
Gives someone else a lift
A picture, a dress, a shirt or a toy
These will bring precious joy
What better way your time to employ?
During your spring cleaning
There will always be a meaning
Behind something people will be receiving
So don't wait
Until it's too late
Always try and donate
Author Notes | I work at a donation center, and I try to give things that I have that are either old or new, for people who don't have as much. Will add picture tomorrow. Having difficulty right now. |

Temptation in the midnight hours
Devil's powers
Satanic grip
A lashing whip
The fruit is sweet, pleasing my eye
Caught in a lie
Devilish snare
In hell fire's lair
Temptation can be overcome
From 'neath his thumb
Pray to be free
Tempter will flee

Cool air mixed with warmth
Gently rustling through my clothes
Sprinkling garden hose
Trickling softly upon a golden rose
Rainfall's pattering whispers
Puddles forming down the street
Airy clouds and double rainbow soon to meet
Spring picture complete
Thunder claps overhead
Lightning streaks through hazy twilight
Natural phenomena in all its might
Majestic mountains in looming height
Robin and sparrow calls awake the dawn
Species of both flutter across the lawn
Fading moon glow and beaming sunrise color the morn
From Mother Earth's womb, Spring is born
Gazing out my window
I see the first green mixed with frosted snow
Winter and spring hands cling
As ruddy, rosy sunset shadows embrace everything
Author Notes | Rains and wild winds two or three days ago, followed by a clear, sunny day, and today what was hopefully the last snowfall on the ground outside my apartment. Thanks to paddybuck from Fan Art Review. |

Wild witches glide past glowing autumn moon
Moon face reflects their eerie shapes
Shapes of pointed hat and broomstick
Broomstick sweeps them along with spell-binding cries
Cries of a companion black cat
Cat perched on her shoulder so bent
Bent, gnarled trees twisting around castles
Castles that are home to these satanic brides
Brides of voodoo magic
Magic potions so sinful and cursed
Cursed at the hour of midnight
Midnight wolverines howling wild

First robin, alighting on a fence
Catching a glimpse from my side vision
Chirping, chattering, happy
Reddish-orange breasted
Flashing through sunlight
Wish I could hold
Her sweet form
In my
Palm

Bonding with my baby
Cuddling him in my arms
Direct gaze into each other's faces
Eyes glowing with love
Tragically taken away
Letters I've written
Months of no response
Not knowing where he is
Offerings of friendship and love
Adoption's seal of hiddenness and secrecy
Author Notes |
First stanza describes my first days with my son, and how they took him away at three weeks old, because I didn't have any help with transportation and lack of emotional support (I called an emergency line of a mental institution many times, at age 30, and DSS (now DCF) used my phone-calling problems and the hospitalizations I'd had ever since age 14 against me, plus having very little knowledge of child care. Second stanza describes how I've written to him via the DCF from 2006 - 2019, I learned in 2019 that he didn't want any further correspondence from me. I've been sitting in my apartment thinking about these things, plus not having my day program to attend because of the Corona virus, and not being able to work because of the virus. Writing helps.

Awakened in an early morning June hour
Pains flashing through me; I felt their power
Water broke and fell
I was put under a spell
Entered hospital before the dawn
No support, as day dragged on
Waves of pain, half minute apart
Anticipatory joy swelled my heart
Supports arrived when evening came
Hope and confidence I could reclaim
Baby's first cry, I gave him his first kiss
Moment of glory, never-ending bliss
Author Notes | The day in June when I gave birth to my son. It was a happy/sad day, at times I was lonely during labor with no support person, then a few women arrived to support me and I was filled with happiness, confidence, joy. |

Mind
In
Bad shape
Dread of day
Mental disorder
Therapy has been mandated
What shall I discuss? Problems or positive feelings?
I do not know where I should turn
Medication helps
Therapist?
Not sure
Will
Try
Try
To think
I'm taking
A whole new journey
Develop trust and conquer fear
Advocate for myself and look forward, seldom back
I really don't want to be forced
Or subject myself
To judgment
Assess
My
Life
Author Notes | I got up at 3:00 a.m. this morning thinking about how I am going to be forced into therapy, I was looking at the poems to review and came across "3:00 a.m." by JM4805. His poem really helped me! He is a behavioral health specialist, and I could relate to what he wrote in his poem. Thanks also to Dovey for giving me this Fibonacci Spiral format. Oceanic tides inward and outward sweeping
Seagulls their circling flight keeping
The ocean is a powerful prayer
To approach it, at times I do not dare!
Delightful spray tosses up sprinkles
Over children at the edge of watery sand
Running, wading, sunshine tanned
Praise and honor to ocean and sky
Across choppy waters, sailing ships ply
Colossal waves like a cathedral towering
Massive, awesome, overpowering
Roaring waves roll towards the shore
Depicting a heavenly monument
A sight to bless and adore!

They say I have a way with words
I think words have a way with me!
Words capture meaning
Meaning captured by words
Writing, speaking, spelling words
Painting pictures we love to see
Words can be free
They also can rhyme
Words can be history
Immortal throughout pages of time
Author Notes | Just felt like playing around with words, and this is the poem that came out of my playing. Thanks to wokandapix from Pixabay. |

Where
am
I now?
Wandering
Through dark recesses
Can't seem to think or concentrate
Cobwebbed, spidery shadows dance in an old attic
Heart made of stone, concrete and brick
Meandering thoughts
Float around
Fogged air
Swirls
Thick
Thick
Columns
Ionic
Architectural
Fleeting thoughts I'm trying to chase
Flitting in and out of my mind like birds thru the trees
Can't concentrate on anything
Thinking dream-like thoughts
Don't know how
To get
Things
Straight

Paranoia crept up in stealth
Breaking down my mental health
Incidents so depressing
Leading to obsessing
Locked up, locked out of programs
Forced to swallow so many milligrams
In seclusion
Head aching with confusion
No family support
Was taken to court
From mentally ill to criminal
Self-esteem was minimal
Intramuscular and concentrate
System was ready to incarcerate
Couldn't find a job
Could only sit and sob
Varying amounts of unearned income
Staff hurt me deeply, and then some
How was I to make a life,
When mental pain cut like a knife?
From teens to fifties,
Then into my sixties
Determined to come out of this daze
Escape from this Minotaur's maze
Built up a life's dream,
Confidence and self-esteem
Got away from being frustrated
Went to college and graduated
Sang, wrote, did some teaching
Listened to Catholic preaching
From the bars of mental health
Created my own riches and wealth
Author Notes | I have been hospitalized a total of 32 times off and on starting at ages 14 and 15, then in my 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. This poem tells a good deal of the story. There were two hospitalizations that lasted one year and the other almost two years. I've had many disappointments and losses. The Minotaur's maze refers to a beast that inhabited a labyrinth, in Greek mythology, and young people were sent in to try and find their way out of the maze and escape the monster. I am 64 now, and I am a published poet, I attend college, and I work. I am active in the Catholic church as a lector, altar server, and minister of Holy Communion. Fan Story writing and reviewing and the feedback I've received have all been therapeutic. Thanks to Dmitry Abramov from Pixabay |

"From a (social) distance,
"The world looks blue and green
"And the snow-capped mountains white"
"From a (social) distance"
We fight an enemy unseen,
In a state of panic and fright
"From a (social) distance,
"You look like my friend"
"From a (social) distance,
I just cannot comprehend"
When this dreadful pandemic will end
We are watching Him
We are waiting on Him
Singing "songs of hope," singing "songs of peace"
'Til we're given release
"O God is watching us,
"God is watching us"
Through this virus
Trying to build up a resistance
"God is watching us...from a (social) distance"
Author Notes | I have written some of Bette Midler's lyrics From A Distance in quotation marks, so I am not trying to plagiarize, and I added some verses of my own, regarding the Corona virus. Thanks to Jim Black from Pixabay for photo. Thanks to Bette Midler, |

Yesterday the telephone rang
And my heart sang
It was my friend from far away
She brightened my day
We shared smiles
Though we couldn't see each other's faces
It was love across the miles
I wrote her when I was under the weather
And the Holy Spirit brought us together
We are of the same age in years
She's comforted my tears
I love to read her poetry
So inspiring spiritually
We have the same gift
Our writing gives both of us a lift
She is an answer to prayer
Someone who will always care

Mirror mirror on my wall
Reflecting short; wish I was tall
Funny mirrors at the amusement park
Overboard skinny or fat; quite a lark
Full-length mirror on my bathroom door

Hand mirror on my bureau

Descending from the heavens bursts forth an April shower
Refreshing the earth for a blossoming May flower
Droplets fall on my head
Coursing down my face
Sunrise and sunset splashing skies blood-red
April rain, May bloom
Knocking on my pane; gorgeous sights seen from my room
Author Notes | I love the way April passes into May, this poem was inspired by the saying "April showers bring May flowers." Thanks to comfreak from Pixabay. |
