Keep those creative juices flowing by writing poetry everyday for a full month. Thirty days in the month of April. Simple. Right?
National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) is a challenge that I have taken on for more than a few years now. It is not like a diet, because I don't have to give up anything. All I have to do is use my imagination and create... And it is not about competition. This is about pushing your mind to its limit as a writer. Quality or quantity... It doesn't matter. I just have to be me.
The creation of poems is for the purpose of storytelling. It is a creative outlet, and can be on any subject. Challengers are asked to write a poem a day. They can follow writing prompts from napowrimo.net or not... Some poets choose a theme for the month. Others (like myself), do what ever seems most convenient or natural. Go with the flow.
NaPoWriMo is sponsored by the Poetry Foundation. It is an International Challenge. I utilize FanStory and NaPoWriMo websites for ideas and to share my work.
Celebrate creativity. Celebrate poetry.
Author Notes | This prologue was written for the purpose of keeping my NaPoWriMo 2019 submissions in a book format. Also, it is a way for me to thank my friends, family and aquaintances for their love and support. |

Oh my ---
Such a bright and warm winter day;
I must enjoy lunch with nature
Under the skinny, but tall tree.
It is naked ---
Somehow, graced with small pink flowers,
And a butterfly perches near;
All seems right, around me.
Amen.

NaPoWriMo.net, Optional Writing Prompt for Day 1: Write a poem with instructions to do something anything. Example, furniture assembly.
I didn't go with the writing prompt, because this poem was previously written. It is about an old lanky cherry blossom tree in my building that I discovered abloom on Daylights Saving Time Sunday. Also, there was a butterfly in Wendy's parking lot that stayed with me for about an hour. So it's two really things (tree and butterfly) that I put together daydreaming. Day 2, NaPoWriMo 2019 Writing Prompt - Write a poem with questions in it and ends with a question. It should be open for readers to interpret and conclude.
I didn't follw the writing prompt. I went on to Writer's Digest and picked a poetic format that I have not yet utilized. Then, I found an appealing painting on FanArtReview to juice my imagination... And I wrote a poem. REFERENCES 1). Echo Verse, Writers Digest - https://www.writersdigest.com/whats-new/echo-verse-poetic-forms 2). Rhyme Zone - https://www.rhymezone.com/ 3). It sits alone in a bud vase
With intricate petals like lace
That brought on a glare;
Romantic and square ---
Daydream stare;
Sweet embrace.
A flower with a rosy face
Full of life and humble with grace;
Peachy with pink tips ---
Sexy without hips,
Thorns and whips
Found a place.

Day 3 - Write a poem that takes time to unfold. I didn't follow the writing prompt. I went with a poetic form that I haven't utilized before and ran with it.

What should I do to change the world?
Hug the Earth until it feels furled...
I would have to get help with that,
And it could amount to chitchat.
Think little and climb the staircase;
Be a leader and set the pace.
I can hug a stranger;
Free hugs would be a life changer.
Nevermind, don't touch me.
I'd rather hug a tree;
It is a start and simple too...
Oh my goodness, this could be true
It will be a brand new habit.
Where is there a park with bunny rabbits?
Expressionism, it is real...
It asks for time, but not money.
Honor nature,
And all of its creatures,
If you have some cash flow,
Donate to that cause with some dough.
I cannot change the world,
Or move into an underworld.
Neither can you...
What we can do is protect and respect
this Earth before it is a complete wreck.
I ♥ nature!

Day 4, NaPoWriMo Writing Prompt - Write a sad poem. Not happening people, I decided to be optimistic. And Easter Day will take place on Easter Monday this year, 04/22/2019. My inspiration for this poem was remembering this song from 1972, "Teach The World To Sing" by New Seekers. It was popularized as a Coco-Cola jingle or something. And Springtime seems like the best time for hope, optismism and renewal to soar new heights.

I live for coffee and making amends
I live for fulfilling those routine days
I live for my spontaneous weekends
I live because life put me in this phase
I live for freedom from personal hells
I live for love and happiness with bells
I live to stay clear of the hot messes
I live for my personal successes
I live because life put me in this phase,
But many tell me I live in a daze.
Author Notes |
National Poetry Writing Month, April 2019 - The writing prompt is to write a poem that emphasizes "if". I don't need to live for any hypothetical situations. So I wrote another introspective poem. It makes me feel comfortable with myself to be who I am at the moment... lounging on my sofa, writing the blues, wearing my pajamas and eating some Oreos. Lolz.

Biggest mall in America
is called Mall of America.
There are plenty stores at this mall,
and too many places to eat...
This mall is far from being small;
Shoppers seem to move with a beat,
"Buy this. Eat this. Play this. Watch this.
Be brave and repeat this for bliss."
Author Notes |
NaPoWriMo, April 2019 - Day 7 Writing prompt is to write a poem of gifts and joy. They recommend following a list of Twitter thoughts, which I think is too personal. However, I, like everybody else, love gifts and joy.
Mall of America in Bloomington, MN is like a place I have wanted to visit since they opened. I might not shop crazily there, but would enjoy lots of amusements/entertainment and food. Now, there's more mall vacations on my list like Alberta, Canada BC and Taipei, Taiwan. But I wouldn't scratch UK, Germany and Beligum jaunts from my list of places to visit either. A vacation to Mall of America would bring me sheer happiness. Maybe, any mall. Passion is the key to becoming an actress
A competitive career choice that takes practice
Beauty does not define you but a good face helps
And rolling with the punches makes me YELP
Emotionally eat a donut and show it
Starve a week and eat a dozen, but never quit
Look in the mirror and face those demons
Scary faces to set audiences screaming
And tears of the clown, cries to hide from that dark side
And happy thoughts are suddenly satisfying
Every accomplishment builds on itself
And I am the best actress content with myself.
Author Notes |
I went back to college and earned an Acting for Film degree. I submit for work. I audition, read and watch too many movies. I take workshops, classes... And the more I do, the more lost I feel. I would love talent representation. Being an actor/actress is an emotional journey alright. I have the skills and continue to grow them. I am going to be a successful film actress. And me, writing this poem gives me a sense of faith in my career endeavors.

Busy morning
Morning traffic
Traffic to the airport
Airport with airplanes
Airplanes that will not wait
Wait for me
Me too
Too many running late
Late for flight
Flight delays
Delays everywhere
Everywhere I have to go
Go somewhere else
Else, the warning
Warning like a sign
Sign like an omen
Omen to what
What to think
Think good thoughts
Thoughts of happiness
Happiness from optimism
Optimism is faith
Faith is God
God made blue skies
Skies have white clouds
Clouds dreamy as can be
Be alert
Alert means focus
Focus on your whereabouts
Whereabouts to doom
Dooms has a day
Day of hell
Hell can be fun
Fun is for Vegas
Vegas is wild
Wild lions
Lions in cages
Cages at MGM
MGM the hotel
Hotel extraordinaire
Extraordinarie environments
Environments are empowering
Empowering visions
Visions of vacation
Vacation on a beach
Beach with drinks
Drinks that are mixed
Mixed fancy
Fancy and tasty
Tasty as in delicious
Author Notes |
I read the writing prompt for NaPoWriMo April 2019, day 9... A blitz came to mind. So I went with it. However, I'm going Florida not Las Vegas. But found out people in Southern California prefer Las Vegas. So to tell the truth, I used that in my nonsense poem instead. I grew up in Miami and view it differently than tourists. Maybe I seek the popularity looming in Nevada.
Apparently, I didn't read the Blitz Poem Rules first. So this Blitz Poem may in fact be completely wrong, but I like it. |

Palm Sunday is a religious day
This day commemorates Jesus
For overcoming hurdles
His reward was a feast
It was moveable
And lasted days;
See Gospel
Of John.
Peace.
Author Notes |
I am not Christian, however, my father is mixed french and indian from the Caribbean and he raised me/us to right Jesus of Nazareth. I am not allowed to write Xmas either. It is Christmas... Hmmppt. He celebrates everything (like Diwali and Eid Mubrakh) because being sociable is good to do. Also, it was common practice to appreciate the day or season in Trinidad & Tobago. I just celebrate everything because of being born and raised in the USA with it. My late mother was Muslim and taught me to always appreciate the prophets before Mohammed because they all were messengers of God/Allah. So I tend to observe the Easter holidays... This year with my father in Florida.
I hope everybody has a wonderful Season of Renewal. Peace be upon you... Amen. REFERENCES FanArtReview, FanStory, PoetryDances, Wikipedia - Palm Sunday, Wikipedia Gospel of John |

The high tide rolls in with a wave,
and I watch footprints wash away.
Some memories to make and save;
I run into the warm water and play.
A jellyfish sting makes me brave,
and I pick it off my arm, because that can't stay.
My tears spot ice cream, and i crave
to go eat some, but it's not the right time of day.

Notre Dame in France is well known;
Rose-colored stained glass set in stone.
Ravishing French Gothic architecture;
Worthy of more that just a lecture.
Built in the Middle Ages with gargoyles,
which hold purpose, secrets and tails that coil.
This beloved church went up in flames;
Let us pray it was not part of any terror games.
Author Notes |
I went Paris, France once for a long weekend. I walked throughout Notre Dame Cathedral... And was upset at the sight of Subway nearby. That is what I remember most. Then, my friend met me and we went for further sightseeing and dinner. It was late November. So the city grew dark early. I neglected to take photographs... However, there are still memories. I thought it was a beautiful place and I loved the design of the whole vicinity, (except for there being a Subway). Reading up on Wikipedia about this masterpiece, I am saddened not to have seen the set of church bells. And now, very upset that a historic monument has been destroyed.

Why is there candy here? Easter!
Is that why we have flowers? Yes.
Daffodils, lilies, and tulips;
Flower baskets, eggs and candies.
Yes, Easter's bright and full of love.
Love? Yes, smell the air and look all around.
Look? Spring's here. People are happy.
Happy? The flowers are fragrant.
There is more to do in warmer weather.
Candies, all sorts of candies;
See the jellybeans. Stretch the peeps.
Shake the robin eggs and listen.
Smell the fresh baked cupcakes.
And bite into those bunny ears.
Yes, Easter's bright and full of love.
HAPPY EASTER
Author Notes |
I used Writers Digest Top 100 Poetic Formats for Poets, and decided to write a Springtime Easter Poem in Echo Verse... However, I started writing and too many ideas were swirling around my mind. So, it might be an Echo Verse Poem with 2 repeats. I am unsure. If you donâ??t think itâ??s an Echo Verse with 2 repeats... We can chalk this up to contemporary poetry or freestyle poetry.
Have a wonderful Easter Weekend. God bless you |

Lounging poolside ---
Early Easter morning,
The sun is still rising
And reflecting on Brickell Bay.
The tide is low ---
No birds, except a black crow.
It pecks rhythmically at stale bread;
Tick-tock, tick-tock.
I am awoken by splashing water ---
A neighbor eager to do laps,
And I am lost from reflection
As a seagull clumsily flaps by me.

God is all around me, and on my mind. But do you think anybody really cares? Probably not because they have other things on their minds and in their hearts. That woman over there. Yeah, her... She's a Church Lady in love with Jesus. No really, her husband is named Jesus. Jesus Cologne if you must know. And if she isn't at home doing something for the family, or spending time with her husband, Mrs. Cologne is at the church singing off-key. You can't not like her for such bravery. And over there, I don't know that man... However, I see him everyday. He's quite interesting to watch because he always seems to be picking at something. One day his head, another day his crotch. Now, he's scratching his chest like an monkey. Is that an unconscious thing? I can't say for sure. This woman with the two little dogs, she's mean. Look how the Cocker Spaniel growls... And that Dachshund is always yawning to show you his sharp teeth. Who know what she teaches those Little Cujos... Oh my goodness, this couple always walks by with a box of fresh baked goodies. They probably sex a lot more often than normal to stay that skinny. What?!!! I'm thinking to myself... God is all around me, and on my mind.

I don't know anything about fishing,
But it's a fun way to make a great day;
Smell the sky's scent, breathe, listen for swishing,
And say a pray before I cast away
That baited hook seeks out some feisty fish,
To grill up for a nice family dinner.
And I quietly wait with well wishes,
As I am a beginner and sinner.
Fishing is considered sustainable,
And it's a sport that is explainable.
Author Notes |
Day 21: Fishing is like a huge thing. I grew up knowing boys that went fishing. Also, there's too many fishermen and fishmongers in near vicinity of me. Also, there's always people fishing on Biscayne Bay. And it's not something in Westerns, but I've seen it in movies plenty. How can I not know about fishing?
Well, I awoke at 5am and started working on a Sonnet. Apparently, I couldn't accomplish writing a Sonnet about Fishing. Either I don't know enough about the subject, or I am not passionate enough about the fishing scene... However, I couldn't seem to get a 4th verse in and I really tried. Food is something to feed our bodies
Food gives us energy
Eating and exercising makes us hotties
As it allows us to maintain good health
We all want to age well
We all have a diet secret to tell
Eat everything in moderation
And raw foods holds caveman admiration
Mix savory with sweet
Add chili for some heat
Cooked foods are considered processed
Add something raw and turn obsessed
Tasty foods are not a weakness
And can bring us out of bleakness
As we build our strength
And give our lives length
Food is auspicious, if you want it to be
Food is nutritious, if you want it to be
Gimme an "F"
Gimme an "O"
Gimme another "O"
Gimme a "D"
What does that spell?
FOOD...
Boil it
Steam it
Don't always fry it
Sautee your food
Stirfry it too
Bake it
Broil it
Whatever you decided to do
Enjoy eating your food
Because food's great for you.
Author Notes | I always write something about food, diet or health... And I haven't in a long while. This is probably how I really feel about the subjects of Food, Health & Nutrition. Fast food, frozen foods and snack foods can seems much easier that cooking. Well, at least for a single person like me. So don't do as I, just do as I write. Lolz. |

Friday afternoon at five o'clock brings freedom
Loosen up as those happy hour beer taps flow
Another work week done, and time for fun
Old friends, new friends and maybe love to come
Some backbite or laugh, many relish a good time
First and foremost, do not expect too much
A few drinks and these beasts are ready for the wild
Before family duties or errands this weekend.

Idyl is a narrative poem written in high language and it should hold a romantic tone. I have written a few idyls before now, however, I can't seem to find information online anywhere this year. The best known idyl that I can remember, "Idylls of the King" written by Alfred Lord Tennyson. I haven't been to a hangout happy hour in years, but always had a great time. I am going to call this Idyl submission contemporary poetry. It may not be written exalted to be considered high language. |

There is a house in the country,
And it sits aside a small lake.
The sun at noon reflects nicely
With images of the old home,
And mirror images aren't all evil,
But listen well when the wind blows;
Twigs and leaves quickly twirl around,
And the chime of ancient bells cry.
Author Notes |
I have written a few pictorals before now that are seasonal to Autumn and Halloween. Maybe, that's why I turned this poem a bit creepy. Where's the bell chimes coming from? Echos from Notre Dame Cathedral... Perhap. Or maybe, it's your imagination playing trick on thee. Idk for sure. Lolz.

The tide rises to meet the setting sun
And the thin, sparse, clouds turn shadowed,

The soft sound strikes a symmetry
And spring memories somehow turn sweeter.

National Poetry Writing Month, April 2019 has come to an end. It was difficult for me traveling because dealing with having a steady WiFi was a complete b#$@h. And let me not talk about roaming, because I don't understand that either. Thing is... I started this poetry challenge. And regardless of what transpired... I accomplished writing a poem a day for 30 days. It feels great to be done. Thank you for reading my poetic works. I am definitely going to be back for April 2020. Ethere or Etheree: This poem is 10-lines long. There is no set pattern of rhythm or rhyme. Same number of syllables as the line. I completed a double-etheree and turned the second stanza upside down.
