Chapter 1
It's Party Time!

By Sandra Stoner-Mitchell

“It’s party time,” the lion roared
“Let’s send the invites out!
We’ll dance and sing and do our thing
with food spread round about.”

The zebra said, “It will be fun.”
“Oh good!” said the giraffe.
And then he did a little twirl
which made the others laugh.

The hippo said “We’ll need the band,
let’s see if they can come.”
The tall giraffe said he would ask
if he could bang their drum.

Invites went out to all about;
 replies were soon returned—
they’d love to come and have some fun,
their answers all confirmed.

The monkeys came, the elephants,
a jumping kangaroo.
One big surprise that caught their eyes—
some penguins turned up too!

The band arrived, they played the jive
the dancing was such fun.
They loved the beat and moved their feet,
as round the ground they spun.

The lion then roared out again,
he said, “It’s time to eat.
Come help yourselves, it’s on the shelves,
You’re sure to find a treat!”

The smell was clear, as they drew near,
of food they’d like to taste,
They all dived in—’twould be a sin
to let it go to waste.

At end of day, they packed away;
it was a great success!
They then brought in a rubbish bin,
and cleaned up all their mess!

Chapter 2
Gerry Giraffe and Ellie Elephant

By Sandra Stoner-Mitchell

Young Gerry Giraffe was out walking alone,

with no friends to run with, no chums of his own.

The other giraffes told him they wouldn’t play

they said he was clumsy and sent him away.

When Ellie the Elephant gazed at the sky

to watch all the birds that were flying so high.

She wished she could join them and not be alone

she'd just like one friend that she could call her own.

Now one of the birds who had been flying by

had spied both the creatures from up in the sky.

She saw they were lonely and had an idea,

she'd bring them together, and fill them with cheer.

She flew down and told the giraffe he should come

to a place that she knew where he’d find a chum.

Now Gerry was happy to follow the bird

and that’s how the oddest best friendship occurred.

Though Ellie and Gerry might not be the same

their friendship would always forever remain

Chapter 3
Have You Seen My Mummy

By Sandra Stoner-Mitchell

Casper was a caterpillar sitting on a leaf,
He looked everywhere around, and then looked underneath.
He called out for his mummy but she was not around,
So with a little wiggle he jiggled to the ground.

He saw a little ladybird sitting by some trees,
And went across and said to her, "Could you help me, please?
I can’t find my mummy; do you know where she might be?"
The ladybird, said, "Sorry! She hasn't been past me."

Then Casper saw a little frog on a lily pad
And went across and said to him, "I am very sad,
I can't find my mummy; do you know where she might be?"
The little frog said, "Sorry! She hasn't been past me."

Casper walked on farther and then saw some buzzing bees
He went across and said to one, "Could you help me, please?
I can't find my mummy, do you know where she might be?"
The buzzing bee said, "Sorry! She hasn't been past me."

Casper saw a pretty snail cleaning out her home,
He went across and said to her, "I am all alone.
I can't find my mummy; do you know where she might be?"
The pretty snail said, "Sorry! She hasn't been past me."

Then Casper spied a spider, spinning cobwebs on the trees,
He went across and said to him, "Can you help me, please?
I can't find my mummy; do you know where she might be?"
But the spider said, "Sorry! She hasn't been past me."

Now, Casper was quite tired, he'd walked a long, long way,
"I can't stop because I've got to find my mum today.
I've asked many creatures, do you know where she might be?
But everyone said, Sorry! She hasn't been past me!"

Casper found a nice big leaf, he thought he'd have a doze.
He fell asleep, and while he slept, something strange arose,
His little caterpillar shape became a chrysalis,
When he wakes, he'll be surprised, and wonder what he is!

Then Casper woke and saw his wings--he was a butterfly!
And all at once he saw his mum as she came flying by.
And all the creatures he had asked, where his mum might be,
Came and shouted really loud, "Yes, she has been past me!"

Author Notes In the UK, we call ladybirds, what you call ladybugs.
