Chapter 2
Tears

By Jean Hornby

The man whispered
" God speak to me "
Then a bird sang
But the man did not hear

So the man yelled
"God speak to me ! "
Then the thunder and lightning
Rolled across the sky
But the man did not listen

Ignoring the thunder
The man stood in the rain
And continued to yell
"God why don't you answer me?"
Then the rain stopped
And upon him shone the sun
But the man looked down in despair

The man knelt down full of negative thoughts
And feeling alone sobbed
"God where are you ? "
Then a passing child threw arms around him
And kissed him
But the man shouted " not now "
And pushed the child away

The man stood up to do his daily chores,
And full of self pity
He shouted loudly
"God where are you ! "
Just then his horses neighed to him
And his dog wagged its tail with love
But the man looked through them

Confused and feeling alone
The man continued his sorrow unto the night
" Why don't you care God ? " He whispered
His dog then placed its head upon his knee

Feeling totally frustrated
The man stood up and pushing the dog away
Looked up to the sky and shouted
"God why don't you ever listen ! "
Then church bells rang

The man looked around and said
"God let me see you "
Then a star shone brightly
But the man did not see

The man shouted
"God show me a miracle "
Then a life was born
But the man did not notice

So the man cried out in despair
" touch me God , and let me know you are here "
Where upon, God reached down and touched the man
But the man just brushed the butterfly away and walked on

The man cried " Please God ! I need your help"
Then a loving email arrived from the woman of his dreams
And an email arrived to tell him he had got his dream job
But the man did not bother to look
He just deleted them and continued to cry .

Chapter 3
A writers Inspiration

By Jean Hornby

They keep saying it's all about who you know
Then they expect me to carry on and grow,
They say it only happens to one in a million
Or to authors that are already known,
Then they expect me to not question or at all moan,
They keep on criticising and tell me to break out of my dream
But then in the next breath they expect me to continue to write and stay keen.
These critics are people that don't have any dreams
But you the reader are all that matters because you are towards where I lean,
You are the ones that tell me to never give up on a dream
You are the reason that I will always remain keen.
So let them criticise all they want because they are not a part of our team,
You and a pen in my hand is all that I need.
So the only words that I say to the critics are,
Leave alone a blossoming flower,
You annoying drooping weeds,
You will never know what drives us and what being able to write means.
So I urge all other writers out there to just ignore these weeds
As You too are a precious flower who has also planted a seed.
Each day we blossom and as we write we are living our dream
So leave us alone you critics and stop being so mean
Because all the while we hold a pen in our hand we will always succeed.

Chapter 4
We

By Jean Hornby

Why do I tell you
What you should do,

Who am I to preach
Your dreams wont come true,

Who am I to say don't lose faith

When I am your self conscious
We are the same fate.

Chapter 5
I know you know

By Jean Hornby

In the church I saw you
You were in the distance
And looked unaware
I tried so hard to look away
But I could not help but stare

You appeared so perfect
I was mesmerised
I looked at your eyes
And felt that I would cry

As the service began
You remained alone
To you I was drawn
though you were still as stone

Now the service is over
I so don't want to go,
Because you I feel
I know that you know

I need to walk over to you
Regardless of who else is there
To me it does not matter
If they stop and stare

Soon we are standing together
And I tell you all my sins
You are a good listener
For you never butt in

I have been in your presence for hours
It is just you and me,
You help me find my soul
You take me where I need to be

Before I go I kneel to you
And thank you for all you do
I tell you I will always be there too,
And as I go I know you know

That Jesus I love you.

Chapter 6
Yesterday, Today, Tomorow,

By Jean Hornby

Yesterday I took chances
Today I thought about it
Tomorow I will have wisdom

Chapter 7
The Voice

By Jean Hornby

As I drift towards troubled times
Not knowing what to do,
A voice whispered to me
I will help you

Through my thoughts
And lonely dreams
I begged for the voice
To show me what life means

The voice now whispered
Do not cry any more
Be at peace with yourself
And give up the self abuse war

I was confused at the said words
And so uttered I don't know how to see
The voice then whispered
Come follow me

I broke away from lingering thoughts
And forgot about empty dreams
As my mind suddenly became open
To allow God in,
So through an abundance of fresh tears
I wept and repented all sin

The voice then told me
You need never walk alone,
For when you gave me your soul
I then gave to you my home

I have held onto Gods words
So when thoughts now go to bad times
I remember a voice so kind,
That gave me just a moment
And then left me to blossom and shine

Chapter 8
Love story

By Jean Hornby

We are a love story you and I
With you I feel I can fly
You make me feel I can do anything,
You make me feel invincible
You make my heart sing,
You make me so proud
That I wear your ring

We are a love story you and I
With you always by my side
I know I can do anything ,
We together are invincible
We together are the real thing,
I thank you so much for loving me
And for wearing my ring

Chapter 9
Life

By Jean Hornby

Life is a subject
One that we are all in,
It is full of gossips
And riddled with sin.

Life is a mirror
Of time flashing by,
Life is a mystery
like that star in the sky

Life is like a wave
You sink or you swim,
Or you learn to ride that wave
That you are sitting in

Life can be your enemy
If you build a lot of sin,
But life can also be beautiful
If you learn to let God in

Life is about tomorrow
And leaving the past behind
Life is your teacher,
Walking the right path
Will make you shine

Life is more than just a subject
She is the world you are stuck in,
So take care of her wisely
And stay away from sin

Life has a meaning
It is yours so treasure it well,
Because life is not a dress rehearsal ,
There is only Heaven or There is Hell

Chapter 10
If one red Rose

By Jean Hornby

If one red Rose can say a thousand words,
Just think what a bunch can do,
If I tell you I love you a million times,
It would be oh so true.

If I carry your picture in my heart
It states you're truly mine,
It says that I will cherish you
Until the end of time

If one red Rose can say a thousand words,
I will capture each and every one
And I will hold you oh so tight,
Because you and I are one,

Chapter 11
I did not know your name

By Jean Hornby

You came to me when I was down
I did not know your name,
But your kindness touched my very heart
And kept me feeling sane.

You did not judge or look at me
In any disapproving way,
But you instead gave me hope
And so you made my day.

You have touched my soul with your kindness
By making time for me,
I can not thank you enough
For the hot food and cup of Tea

You came to me when I was down,
I did not know your name,
It did not matter that I was homeless
You still cared for me all the same.

Chapter 12
Miles

By Jean Hornby

The miles of life are long
But the journey is very short,
So don't run too fast
take plenty of time to walk

Chapter 13
Trapped

By Jean Hornby

Worthless
Hopeless
Mindless
Gutless
Here I am stuck and drawn under your spell
Be kind to me as I don't die well

Chapter 14
If I could

By Jean Hornby

If I could turn back the years
They would all be spent with you,
And I would still be by your side
Because we would never have been through.

Have you ever heard that saying time is a healer ?
But what about when things are too late,
Have you ever wished that things could be different
Instead of having left your whole life to fate.

Many times a tear has fallen
For the life I never had,
But somewhere through the tears,
It has not all been bad.

We could have done so much more
If only I had known,
And we could of raised a family
And had a wonderful home.

But you and I were young
And I was forever free,
So I just did not realise,
How much you meant to me.

If I could turn back the years
I would have spent them all with you,
And just maybe where ever you are,
You feel that way too.

Chapter 15
If I was to ....

By Jean Hornby

If I was to touch your hand would you hold it ?
If I was to go away would you notice ?
If I was to shout your name would you run my way ?
If I told you I have always loved you would you turn me away ?
If , Is too much of a gamble to let you know so until I pluck up the courage ,
I will remain just another one of your friends hiding in a shadow .

Chapter 16
The house on the hill

By Jean Hornby

The house on the hill who lives there .
I don't know and other people don't care,
The house on the hill is lifeless and old,
It holds many secrets so I'm told.

The house on the hill is mysterious
It has many stories to tell,
Some folk say it is haunted
Some say it's the gateway to hell

The house on the hill may hold secrets
And may have a story to tell
And it may look like it could be haunted
And be the gateway to hell

The house on the hill wants to see you
Fear not, I will be your guide,
I will show you all the life it Holds
And the many secrets that are kept inside,
Do ignore the many faces at its windows
It is just that no one has been there in a while.

The house on the hill would like to know you
Fear not what you could have seen,
Just do try and stay until morning
To say you did survive and that you have been,
And do try and turn the nightmare into a bit of a dream.

Chapter 17
For you

By Jean Hornby

When my garden is full
I will pick each and every one
Of these many beautiful flowers
That have Blossomed here in the sun.

I will fill many vases
And hand you each one,
I will sprinkle gold dust on them
So the spell cannot be un done.

When my garden is full
Each flower here is yours,
So visit whenever you want
As here there is no door.

I will fill many vases
With hearts and sparkling dreams
Then blow a kiss in each one,
Because I know that when you see them,
You will smile and glow like the sun.

Now my garden is full,
So I will pick each and every one,
And as a distant song bird sings to you
I hope your heart I have won.

Chapter 18
You and I

By Jean Hornby

We are one together you and I
You cannot see me,
But each breath you take,
I do to.

When you were being developed
That's when we were joined,
So into this world together we came
You and I.

I am your weakness
I am your strength
I am your life-force ,
Your body is the shell that I rest in

We are one together you and I
You cannot see me,
But one day when you die,
This is when I your soul
Will leave you and fly

Chapter 19
Broken glass

By Jean Hornby

Along the pebble stones I go
I creep carefully along the way,
Quietly cursing each and every step,
In fear of the noise giving me away.

In and out of many buildings I weave,
Just like the hunter does with its prey,
Here there are no exceptions.
Here it is just the same,
So my eyes continue to stay focused,
Just like any cat and mouse game

" hurry up ! A loud voice bellows, all aboard if ye do sail "
But I don't respond to the captains wishes,
I just hide like I am a runaway trying to escape jail
I cannot give away my presence
For then I would have failed.

I suddenly gasp as the one I followed
Now stands as still as can be,
" my darling, I have missed you " he says.
I cry because it's not me.

" Does she know " asks his companion
As they intimately kiss and hold each other tight,
" she won't find out till morning,we timed it just right "

His words opened a hole deep within me
And I cried as I watched them happily go,
But he seemed to have no memory of me,
Him who was my husband and her the heartless hoe.

" hurry up " the loud voice sternly bellows, " all aboard we be leaving now,
I hate you I cry, as they continue to flirt and laugh out loud ,
My betrayal of a husband and her that marriage breaking cow.

Back along the pebbles I now wander,
Still holding the betrayal note left on his pillow to me,
And hoping their ship sinks like the Titanic,
And they get lost out in sea.

Many hearts do get broken
And mine is riddled with pain
But I will always tread broken glass to get to you
I just wish you felt the same,
And had not run away with that woman
And caused me all this pain.

Chapter 19
You Milady

By Jean Hornby

As my feet tread upon these fallen leaves
And their crisp noise of a brittle break
Echoes my every step,
I feel no detour ,
For each and every step I Tred
Is one step closer to you my love.

I your maiden hear you coming,
From somewhere amongst Thy mist,
So I will hold all breath that your sword remains to be a bloodless one
And that it's Shield protects you well as you and Thyne horse tread carefully
To not stir or awaken the dragon.

As a sudden mist now blinds my vision,
I the king of swords and the keeper of the gate
Now mount my horse so we can continue onwards
Towards you my maiden.
Upon my sword I will seek to Rescue you,
Thy quest will not Befold
I will slay any dragon to get to you Milady ,
No matter how fierce .
For I carry Thy sword of chivalry ..
Upon this weapon I fear none,
Upon Thy oath I have been anointed to carry on,
For I am your knight,
And by the power of my sword I shall not fail you.
A noise amongst the bracken now breaks all Silence and all thoughts,
So as my eyes seek to capture ,
My body goes in seek of Thy sword,
But alas Twas only a bird.

I your maiden now see you ,
My glorious knight you have made it,
You have succeeded Thy quest.

I milady am your knight,
For you I will always succeed.

So The knight now carried upon his horse his maiden back to safety .
As they rode unto the night and she held him tight ,
She also feared nothing or no one,
For as he carried her life,
She now carried his heart .

Chapter 21
Someday

By Jean Hornby

Someday I will climb that mountain that beckons me,
Someday I will sit on a rainbow and feel so happy and free.
Someday I will reach for the sky knowing you will take my hand,
Someday I will follow you to a beautiful promised land.
Someday I will ask you to show me a world that has no time
Someday I will seek and then pleasantly find.
Someday I will see angels showing themselves to me,
Someday I will welcome their wings wrapped tight around me.
Someday I will cherish life oh so true,
Someday I will sit on a unicorn and let it take me straight to you.
Someday I will find a way to climb that mountain so high
Someday I will reach for you high up in that sky.
Someday.

Chapter 22
I give to you

By Jean Hornby

If I promised you a Rose ,
Would you be mesmerised by its beauty
And so would you give to me your love.
If I could paint you a rainbow
And give you a pot of gold,
Could I then steal a kiss from your soul.

If I promised you a world of everlasting dreams
And place you and me there,
Would you then take my hand
And hold me
Like you really care.

If I love and protect you
And softly kiss your heart
And play to you a beautiful song
From a golden harp,
Would you then be mine.

If I promised you a thousand Roses
And hand picked every one
And gave to you a key,
Would you then unlock your heart
And set my aching one free.

Author Notes Would you give to me ?

Chapter 23
I wonder

By Jean Hornby

You wonder why I love you
I say because I do,
You tell me that your heart always flutters
Because you love me too.

I wonder why you love me
You say because you do,
I tell you that my heart will always
Flutter for you too.

Chapter 24
The tunnel

By Jean Hornby

I walked through a tunnel,
Hoping to find you there,
But all I found was emptiness,
And a developing fear.

I look long and hard ,
But there is no trace of you,
I feel my heart skip a beat
As I search high and low,
Because my irregular heartbeat
Needs you so.

Why have you left me,
So vunerable and alone,
Why lock your heart,
When I thought mine was your home.

The tunnel now becomes darker,
And your still not here,
I need you to get me out,
So my vision suddenly becomes blind
As every emotion in me shouts.

I stay lost in this tunnel,
And all alone as can be,
Because every corner that I search,
Remains cold and empty.

But my heart refuses to let me leave,
My emotions hold on to,
So a fresh tear suddenly,
Joins in the search that I have for you.

I am trapped in this place,
That you have put me in,
Why am I the victim,
When I did not sin.

I am now crawling in this tunnel,
I want you back so much,
I want to kiss you again,
And feel your long lost touch.

But find you I cannot,
Though search for you I have tried ,
So I am doomed in this tunnel of love,
All because my heart refuses to die.

Chapter 25
Liquor in my veins

By Jean Hornby

As I sit at the bar
I have only one thing on my mind,
So my eyes now scan all of the drinks before me
As I hungrily wait in line.

As the liquid of sin now touches my lips
I soon enjoy each mouthful of regrets,
But this is just the beginning
The night is not over with yet.

My taste buds signal how refreshing
As my mind gets drawn in,
So it doesn't take long for the effects
Of the poison to begin.

Once in my veins
The drink trip begins,
It always starts pleasant ,
But then ends in sin.

It's the juice of confidence
Such a potion of power,
No one can escape it,
It's like nectar of a flower.

The poison rushes through my veins
It's target is my brain,
I can't stop now,
That would be insane.

So as I sit at the bar
I continue to remember the time before,
The memories of same place
Different day,
Keep haunting me
And won't go away.

It's now my turn to get served
" What would you like" ?
The bartender asks,
I smile weakly at my new found task
As I tell him
"Just give me a pure orange in a very large glass "

Chapter 26
A Song birds call

By Jean Hornby

When I am buried in the soil
Do you see a butterfly flutter
And hear a song birds call,
Do you feel the wind as it blows
Do you see a sparkle in the crisp White snow,
And also watch a flower open petals as it grows.

When I am buried in the soil
Do you see a star twinkle in the sky,
Then do you suddenly hear a new born baby cry
And do you see a bird spread it's wings and fly

When I have been placed in the ground below
Do not weep because I did not go,
Do not cry because you think I am there
Take a look around,
I am now everywhere.

Do not stand at my grave and cry
Instead hold my memories close to your heart
And do not pull yourself apart,
Remember I know that you will always care
So please step away from my grave
Because I am not ' There '
