Poem on the Range
Poetry Contest
The topic for this poetry contest is: The OPEN RANGE, or the word 'WEST.'
Write a poem that somehow incorporates the topic. Creative approaches are welcomed. Contest voters will be asked to consider the topic when making a choice for a winner. This is another Oh-Pun Poetry Contest! This time, the theme is anything about the open range, defined as wilderness or land that is untamed or reserved mostly for wild animals or livestock, or anything related to the word "West." It could mean the Old West in the United States, or the west side of your kitchen, or the west end of the street, city, or country where you live. It could even be the west side of the dog's house or the west side of a bus, tree, or anything else that has a west side. Specify briefly in Author Notes what kind of 'West' you are referring to. Illustration here is for helping with ideas, but feel free to pick any other art or photo you wish. Puns are a plus! This means that you are free to be corny as well with sound-alike words. It's oh-pun season! But please keep it G-rated or PG-rated. This means even fourth or fifth graders could read it. 40 lines or less. Free verse poem or rhymed poem.
The contest winner will win half of the prize pool which is based on the number of entries. The second and third place winners will each share the remaining prize pool. The prize pool is currently 32.00 member dollars. There are 10 spots still open. If all open spots are used the prize pool will be 72.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
Deadline: Contest is closed. Deadline was Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
