Fairy tales... with a twist!
Poetry Contest
Write a poem based on a well-known fairy tale (choose one from the options below). You are required to use a rhyme scheme- such as AABB or ABAB. However, there's a catch. You have to add a twist ending to your poem (based on whichever fairy tale you are writing about) that will surprise your readers. There is no limit on the length (but don't make it too long!)
Example:
Just at that moment the Wolf, (a)
Shag jaws and slavering grin, (b)
Steps from the property wood. (c)
O, what a gorge, what a gulf (a)
Opens to gobble her in, (b)
Little Red Riding Hood! (c)
O, what a face full of fangs! (a)
Eyes like saucers at least (b)
Roll to seduce and beguile. (c)
Miss, with her dimples and bangs, (a)
Thinks him a handsome beast; (b)
Flashes the Riding Hood Smile; (c)
Stands her ground like a queen, (a)
Velvet red of the rose (b)
Framing each little milk-tooth, (c)
Pink tongue peeping between. (a)
Then, wider than anyone knows, (b)
Opens her minikin mouth, (c)
Swallows up Wolf in a trice; (a)
Tail going down gives a flick, (b)
Caught as she closes her jaws. (c)
Bows, all sugar and spice. (a)
O, what a lady-like trick! (b)
O, what a round of applause! (c)
