Write a Pantoum Sonnet
Poetry Contest
Write a Pantoum Sonnet.
A Pantoum Sonnet is a unique and beautiful form, which is a combination of a Pantoum and a Sonnet.
Like a sonnet, it has to be written in iambic pentameter, 10 syllables per line, 5 metered feet, three quatrains and a rhymed couplet.
The rest of it is a Pantoum. A Pantoum consists of rhymed quatrains. The trick here is that a second and a fourth line of each quatrain repeats as the first and third line of a subsequent quatrain.
For the rhymed couplet - the first line repeats the first line of the first stanza, and second line repeats the third line of the first stanza.
This is an example, from my own collection.
THE DEATH OF A CRYSTAL VASE
This crystal vase I nurtured with my love
Each facet of it brought the thought of you
The diamond light it shone was from above
The crystal magic sparkled fair and true.
Each facet of it brought the thought of you
This precious vase was like a learned tome
The crystal magic sparkled fair and true
Your sanctuary was my cherished home.
This precious vase was like a learned tome
You broke it with one single careless word
Your sanctuary was my cherished home
You left me homeless and my muse unheard.
This crystal vase I nurtured with my love
The diamond light it shone was from above.
