Wow. There is no way to read that without a box of tissues handy. I don't know what the movie was, but you did an exceptional job of retelling it through this short story. The Germans weren't known for taking prisoners. That was a war that no one will ever forget. Thanks so much for sharing and good luck in this contest. God Bless.

Thank you Linda, The movie is called Miracle in Santa Anna - still on DVD. I wrote it my way, changed the characters and places. Some good things did come out of the holocaust. Blessings, Kay.

In the process the American officer and a village girl fall in love consummating their happiness. Years later they find each other again to fulfill their life together. You've bitten off a big piece, here Aussie. The story is a synopsis of a novel (or a movie, as you say). If you were to take a small segment of this - the betrayal and execution, for example - and explore it in detail from the POV of either of the participants you'd have a tighter story and would be able to let the reader experience the emotions instead of you having to tell us about them.
That said, this is technically well written. One thing to look at:

This story is is well written and held readers interest and attention to the finish.
There are so many atrocities committed during war. throughout history it has been the same. There are always parties to war that are fanatical or greedy or even insane.

This is very well written,, you did a great job writing this story about the man who found his lost italian love after 30 years and found he had a daughter Gina twenty nine years old.
