The breeze filters gently through the fronds
The finger like leaflets offer little resistance
Even to a gale they bravely respond
To all weather they give unique acceptance
At the base of each frond are spikes that project
To discourage the growth of cultural invaders
To generally deter, serve and protect
That the fronds may be free of hungry raiders
Then there is the symmetry
Left side being mirrored by the right
The wonder of geometry
An elliptical end is a fashioned sight
